Well yes, the level of detail Tomi's work is stunning.
But I dont let it detract from the greatness of SHV, for what we have seen, the SHV trailer is also stunning :)
To be fair when was the last time you saw such a detailed scene in any sim or video game?

hmm... let me think abou it... the ship simulator series is the closest...

some of there ships look quite nice.:yep:

but still, they did a good job...

Isn`t the first the diesel engine compartment and
the second one the electric engine compartment?

But someone was making such a compartiments that
i have seen on the shiv forum.

As the whole boat is modelled. I'm sure the Devs are focusing on being framerate friendly as well as asthetics. I'll take the less detailed version any day, if it means I can smoothly transition through the boat.

Yes and keep in mind we dont know how may different sub interiors the Devs need to modle.
They could have not bothered with full interiors at all, knowing that the game would probably still sell well regardless.

TBH Im just saying they deserve to be applauded for their efforts so far (and not LOL'd at.)

well... the community can also add more details to the interior... for the people with hispec systems.:yep:

but I still think the devs did a ok job for the ammount of money/manpower they have.

As you can plainly see, UBI has included dynamic shadows. From the screenshots I bet they also use ambient occlusion. Without shadow maps and baked ambient occlusion, a higly detailed interior with thousands of objects, like Tomi's, would literaly sink your pc. Even so, I pray to god that Tomi used render layers and still has a clean version of textures for his interiors. Otherwise we might never see his interior in SH5.

and who is to say, that the interiors won't be modded to people's desires.

I like what the devs have done so far.

Now, I hope they have the correct sounds for the engine room, (not the sound they keep trying to use, which is all wrong). I like the sound Das Boot used because having worked around open tappet engine, they have a definite clickity clack sound, that the Faribanks Morse engines do not.

Also please devs have the hull creak louder and louder the deeper it goes AND not have it mean the sub is taking damage. I missed that from SH3

Apples and oranges.... /shrug

Got a question for you. Can you walk around in Tomi's work?

tomoose

....until the (hopefully finished) game is out before we start pinging off the walls about small details etc.:timeout:

All of this type of eyecandy stuff means nothing if the gameplay is not worth it.

*hides in cover at embarassment at lack of modeling skills*

Both put my Iron Coffins to shame..

But right now, Tomi's work looks great, but would drag my system to a halt.

UbiSoft is smart, they're using different shaders for theirs, and it's not necessarily the final product. I'm happy that we get the whole interior to ourselves without a bunch of reworking and modeling on the side after the initial game comes out

LOL? :hmmm:

Does this mean EgoApocalypse that you're putting your hand up to be the first to release reworked interiors?

Good luck balancing detail with performance.

One of the first things I'd like to see redone are the floor tiles. We should extend the walls down and make the floors look like grates and see objects below them. Hopefully UBI will allow a "cast shadows" flag on each item. Then adding the miriad of objects in Tomi's interior would be a lot simpler

Of course the detail in Tomi's work is amazing. however considering his highly complimentary opinions of the SHV previews, and his all around good nature, I doubt he would approve of you using his work as a basis to "LOL" at the development team. A very unfounded LOL at that. :nope:

Highbury is spot on there regarding Tomi.
And the devs read this forum, so its really not really nice.
Nobody would compare two examples of modders work in this way out of respect, where is the respect for the Dev team - dont they deserve any?

As long as we can mod the interiors and in a modular fashion I'll be happy. After the first few hours of play I'm pretty sure I'll go back to the old warp to the bridge and right click to go back method of SH3. If a SH3 style acurate control room interior can be made (cause that's where I'll be most of the time), the rest of the boat can look vanilla AFAIC.

I like Tomi's work very much and in many ways it looks superior to our stuff - clearly the fruit of much time, passion and knowledge put into it.

Of course, the question is whether it would stand the test of technology and make it into the game .... as our engine room has. We have dodged technical problems and limitations I never knew exist ;)

I like the new interiors, although sometimes they seem a bit too big. But I guess that's FOV related. Even more, I like how the compartments at the ends of the sub are visibly smaller. It makes you feel you're 2 meters away from the bow . When you go back to the CR it feels like you return to a luxurious room. Which is exactly how it must've felt in real life. The shadows will add a new dimension to the interiors but I really hope that the lights can be turned on/off individually by clicking their switches and that they change colors depending on the battlestation/silent running status.

But most of all I'd like to congratulate you for making the interiors look like a serious and cold war machine, not a hot tin can with pipes and dials. Germans were proud of their engineering and there's no way in hell they'd make the subs look like anything but a shiny, thick and tough killing blade. I still have the trailer in my mind, those guys look like professional warriors not scared cats with oil on their faces.

The 'screen-shot' you posted is not original as it is very blurry.

:D We're having a lot of 'trouble' with the 3D artists not to make it look like that 2nd image (because people can't spend thousands of $/€ on a new PC (in this times of economic crisis)).

And yet, while walking inside the sub, you will be blown away by the level of detail of the 3D models. I guarantee you that. :arrgh!:

:yeah::yeah:
I indicated this in the past, that at that level of detail, the mod for SH4 will run at 1 FPS... People see a static pic and expect it to work, and naturally a comparison is done now here with SH5. But it's a rendered shot vs an ingame shot so it's not fair anyway... Happy to see you are 'on the ball'.

I'm one of those who couldn't give a damn about how the interior looks.

For me, it's all about gameplay and technical detail.

In SH4, as I am no doubt everyone is sick of hearing me say, the air search radar was represented via PPI and gave bearing when, in reality, it was always an A-scope and gave distance only.

THAT was unforgivable in my book.

So, for my money, please focus on how things work before concerning yourselves with how they look.

JScones

I agree. I might cruise through the interior once, then I'll be over it. If it adversely impacts my FPS, then I won't be happy; I plan on buying SH5 to play, not to look at pretty pictures (I have the internet for that).

and lets be honest here, no matter what they do the modders wil "improve on it" even if it isnt an improvement lol.

lets hope they concentrate on the game working to the best it can and simple things like eye candy can be improved by the modders
