And not warn you like in SH3?? (I don't mean overwriting the current save, but overwriting any games saved after it.) I just lost 8 days of progress in a mission because I needed to take a screen shot from a previous save. Grrrrr! :stare:

Yeah they set it up with a rotating auto-save of two groups each consisting of and return to port and a prior to getting underway. The only way around it I can see to to do a manual save and name it something.

:hmmm: Well, that certainly answers a question to something posted in another "Saves" thread.

Yea thats a nuisance.

Thats why I keep a series of four manual saves and rotate through them in addittion to the autosaves.

No saves are more than an hour or two apart.

I learned as you did the hardway :salute:

If you want to run an old saved game:
In My Documents copy and rename the SH4 folder to something like SH4_real. Run your old save, and then after you are finished, delete the SH4 folder or rename it and rename the SH4_real to SH4.

On a long patrol, I often copy and rename my SH3 or SH4 folder so I don't lose my progress.

:hmmm: I assume, when you do that, you load the earliest of the four saves. When you do (if you do), doesn't the game delete the three later saves?

No

Here is what I do I keep 4 saves... save x1 play for an hour, save x2 play for an hour, x3 ditto, x4 ditto, then I got back and overwrite x1 play for an hour then overwrite x2. Then there are the two autosaves one when you enter base and another when you leave. The game convienently places the latest save at the top of the list. If that one is bad I go to the next one.

This way if one of the saves is corrupt or i have to quit or I crash for some reason the most i can lose is an hour or two.

Ive been burned by corrupt saves and crashes once to often so now I overcompensate :rotfl:
