After a long long long loooong pause, the legendary Aurora server is back up and running! :rock:

If you're after a good online server for FL, dont look no further. Aurora uses the TNG mod with newly upgraded Aurora mod, adding even more ships to the already big list of flyable ships.

Well thats changed We have the aurora addon running on the server this is a new version of the addon that adds new ships so far it adds 10 but in the next version were planning to add 30 new ships! Including new weps and a few new systems 1 or 2 maybe

Ah, some fond memories of Freelancer MP. Might scope it out again. A lot of egos there though, I remember quitting once because just about everyone I played with was a dbag except people who were in my clan. Even some of my clanmates were *******s to everyone.

Pfft, forget the Titan, the Dromedary is the best you can find!

TNG+Aurora adds tons of new ships, so you can pretty much forget the stock ships if you want to have any chances of survival. :O: Tho, it's more based on what weapons you have, but it doesnt hurt to have a agile fighter like the Havoc. :yep: (that is, until you come against a Vorlon planet destroyer, a fatty too big to even fit the tradelanes :D)

Can't say I like this wholesale adding of ships to the game, kinda destroys the immersion IMO. When I played the first time it was usually on servers with more...err...simple mods.

But the catch is, all the new ships come with new races and new races come with new planets and new planets come with new systems. And most of the new races are very time consuming to befriend with and you naturally have to choose a side in most cases. For example, if you befriend with the goodies from Star Wars, the baddies will dislike you and you cant buy their ships or anything else from their planets.

Nah, there's nothing to gain by running a free server. And I doubt this will make ppl buy FL and even if it would, the money would go to the devs, not the server guys. :O:

Most of those who are running the Aurora server were thinking of going to JGE, but it seems they've gotten someone to further develop the Aurora mod.

Dont think there is anymore. But IIRC the amount of new ships in TNG 2.7 was something around 70-80. All stock races get fighters, small freighters, cruisers, gunboats and battleships.

The new races are a bit more mixed, some have only fighters, some have only different sized freighters and some rely on cruisers and battleships.

Yeah someone told that in the server...but I had to discover who it was to build rep with.

Thought it would be a good idea to publicly announce that we are currently back! We have been gaining quite a few new members recently server has 10 people online currently.

Aurora was one of the last standing TNG servers that ran for a good 10 or more years. With a talented modding team and the experience behind our backs we developed the plasma server operator for our server as well. https://sourceforge.net/projects/plasma/

We also did start to make our own Aurora Mod after we were finished with our addon but sadly that fell apart when our lead dev disappeared out of the blue and a host of other issues the other being the fact that the server's owner lost his wife to cancer and could not carry on to provide the players with the awesome gaming experience we were accustomed too. Eventually some of us started to return to attempt to bring Aurora back!

TNG is a very different mod from many other mods that currently have any sort of player base. Our battles mostly were of Capital ships and Fighters. Fighters are very much missle based and quite a joy to fly but are also very fast so do take a little time to master in a dog fight.
