Tonights flight was alot of fun...

I have decided that i will fly for the allies for one mission and the germans for the other if the germans have the 190 D...

GAH!!! Why did I have to go to work right when we start flying a campaign that has two of my favorite Allied planes. Well depending on how long the campaign is I might get to fly,but I don't think that will happen. And I don't think you guys would change Fridays to Saturdays, if that happened I would be able to fly unless I was working OT or had something else to do.

I also learnt that flying a fw 190 d for along time with 50% fuel with the throttle running high... is a bad idea... you may run out of fuel when you dont want to... lol (I almost had that A20...:shifty:)

I've dropped weekend flights long ago due lack of people showing up,
and its my only evening I'm either just knackered or I'm going out so unfortunately saturday evening are of limits.

Sorry to hear work cuts in your flying Red Max, but I will try to keep the trend up for late war campaigns which hopefully brings the aircraft you like.

1st mission I dive bombed a Panzer before climbing up and watching out for any fighters. The Jarmins must have invented cloaking devices though because while the AI was screaming for its mommy I could see bugger all going on and RTB'd when a flak hit caused injury.
2nd mission I dropped bombs early when the 190s showed up, then promptly lost them, spotted one by chance attacking some A-20s, thought it might be TF so tried to sneak up on it. No go, damn thing dived into the green where I of bad eyesight lost it, which gave it the time it needed to sneak around and get on my tail again. Dodged him once more, but then he got a lucky shot on a head-on pass and knocked my wing off, and it was goodnight Irene.

1st mission for me... I took a p 51... got into a dogfight with 3 109s, shot down 2 of the. then went and joined up with oberons spit. in the end the flack hit me in the engine... but i had a... bumpy... landing...

2nd mission, took the 190 D:D

got up to hunt the other lolwaffles, and found hunter... shot him down, then I went after a lightning (p 38 i think) shot down anouther a 20, and a mustang,and something else i think... and was going after anouther a 20... but little did I know that my 190 was sucking down fuel like dowly would a bottle of beer... and I ran out of fuel, mid dogfight:shifty: with 2 spits and a a20 so I landed in a city... with 2 spits and an a20 on my tail...:lol:

I Got my plane off the ground (used up alot of fuel climbing.) and flew to where the map said I needed to go, and the fight started...

In the end... TF1 Allies 0
I got acouple of lolwaffles, and some of there friends... with my flaps jammed. sadly Oberon had landed and I couldnt put all the allies down...
I love me 190...

2nd mission The fireballs...

Yes... schroeder and I flew 262s to attack rocket launchers. on attackrun,I ment mr flack unit,and turn in to a BBQ. which made me shut down my engines and make my plane do a bellyflop onto a road... but I got away...

But later...

Schroeder led hunter and his little freinds on a chase to the end of the map... but in the end... his Tracker IR killed him while he was attacking a mustang... (they crashed...)

Me and Potato and the 2 AI P51 mustangs where pretty much chasing you since we spotted you North of our destinated area.

Climbing we could keep up with you 2 but as soon you leveled you became smaller in our sights.

the only real chance I had was when you both dived to sart the attack run..I was diving on you 750 km/h +
I should have adjusted my Converge range (it was set at 150 meters) to a further distance as I shot perhaps at 200 - 300 meters at Schroeder's 262 which did little damage and before I really got close enough he pushed forward and I lost him out of my sight.

Anyway, Lolwaffles from Oberons POV:

Flew Spits in both missions and we actually got proper Spitfires this time, without the clipped wings :rock:

First mission was a ground convoy attack, however partway there, my Newview broke and I was unable to pan around, so I dropped my bombs on the convoy and used up all my ammo strafing them. Killed a tank with my MGs! :doh: RTB'd and landed successfully :doh: Taxi'd and parked, whilst suddenly realising that this was the same or very similar to the airfield we had flown from with the Hurricanes back in the Battle of France DCG campaign:

Because there were two-storey houses slap bang next to the taxi-way! :damn: Thankfully avoided them and then fixed the Newview problem.

Second mission, well, more of the same of the first, Patton was howling for help, TF and Schroeder took two BBQ-262s, whilst Kratos and I took Spits and Hunter and Sgt Potato took P-51s, Raptor took an A-20 and parafragged a house.
Both myself and Kratos encountered incoming artillery on take-off and vectored towards the target, where we encountered some Yank tanks being mercilessly shelled by German MRLS. I was unable to find the artillery so both myself and Kratos attacked two trains we found in the area, unfortunately during this escapade I got banged up pretty bad by Archie and had to head back for base, a slight detour because I took the wrong heading meant that the engine was already dying when I got over friendly lines, so I decided to ditch on the ground, unfortunately the ground wasn't level and I turned into a fireball.
Then it was a case of watching Task Force plough a field with his BBQ-262 after flaming out, and then watching Schroeder lead Hunter and his AI off the map only to get the AI catch up with him in the turn and shoot him down.

Whenever I'm doing harsh manoeuvres I move my head a little and the stoopid Track Ir thinks I'm turning my head around which is very annoying when you have the zoomed view engaged and are targeting an enemy.:damn::damn::damn::damn:
I think I'll buy the waaaaay overpriced vector expansion. Some of my squadron mates told me that this works wonders in regards of being able to move your head a bit to a side without making it rotate in game.

Patience my Jarmin friend...You'll change your mind about it all once you get the vector expansion :03: you should have bought it in the first place you tight git :O: TBH i would be lost without my trackir.I couldn't go back to the hatswitch, thumb slipping off the bloody thing, causing eratic movements leading to frustrating disorientation,stalls/spins/crashing.This was one of the reasons i hated locked pits,but now i wouldn't dream of flying without locked pits. :salute:

Bloody Fw-190s...

First mission I took an A-20 and headed out to the bombing run, couldn't see jack at the co-ordinates I was given (except an allied airfield getting pasted by god knows what) so I flew over to the airfield near St Vith I'd spotted last mission whilst watching Schroeder flying back to Germany in his 262, came in to bomb that and got headshotted by the AAA. :dead:

Second mission they actually gave us some decent planes, although it was a clipped wing Spit :nope: However, Hunter defected to join Task Force in Fw-190s...

ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT

Not long after take-off I made the decision to ditch the bombs and climb, climb, climb, figuring that the 190s would use boom and zoom tactics and so the higher I was the harder it would be for them to use that on me. Schroeder declared war on TrackIR and lost, crashing and leaving Spud to complete the mission and return to base successfully. Meanwhile I toodled around at 6000-7000m trying to spot the inevitable 190 attack before it hit me.
Then, suddenly! A plane! On my six! I went into evasive maneuvers (read stalling) and managed to shake him, but then he was back again, so I evaded (stalled) again, and on about the third evasion I noticed that his wings were rather elliptical....

D'OH!

I was evading another Spitfire...

Hunter went down, and so I waited for Task Force to come and get me...and waited...and waited....and waited, eventually Task Force was shot down, and Hunter reminded me that I'm not in a U2 spyplane, and my name is not James May...

I dived, and rather than make everyone watch me fly back to base for twenty minutes, I did the RAF a favour and wrote off a clipped wing Spit by Allah Ackbaring it into a convoy of German trucks.

Next time, give us PROPER Spitfires!! :shifty:

All the 190s have a bug that their rear armor plate doesn't protect the entire pilot as it should do. You can easily get killed from behind even by machine guns.:nope:

To be honest I was surprised how easily I could shoot you down. On the first short burst you lost something already and the second burst outright killed you. I think I've fought 109s in American planes that were harder to take down.:shifty:

My B25 found an AI plane, I had so much flak going off around me whilst trying to set up the bombsights that I didn't notice the shots flying past the cockpit until just before my wing fell off... :hmmm:
Mission before that was fun though, my Razgriz P-38 saw an airing, and Hunter in his Me-BBQ found Task Force :hmmm::haha:
I then demonstrated by inability to strafe targets with MGs and Cannons before receiving a hole in my right wing and fuel tanks :yeah: Thus prompting a swift RTB where I pulled up next to Raptor. :rock:

You should've seen me in the 2nd mission, since you left that early you didnt get to see me shooting a friendly and instant Flambé my engines as I hitted the ''1'' key instead of the Chat key..and when I wanted to throttle up again (when you touch the lever a bit it goes straight to the % throttle the lever was at ....it was at 100% :dead:)

(funny news opening music plays.) and heres the lolwaffles news for friday!!!
In the first mission the glorious luftwaffles (err hunter,schroeder, and I) and those doomed allies sgt patato, and oberon...
The 262 bbqs and my ta 152 (not my normal D9) took off to terrorize the skys...
Hunter and schroeder play the trickey game of trying to get a 262 bbq to altitude. while my ta 152 managed to get to 4000+m in the same amount of time... pfft jets superior, I think not. (note to goring... please send more ta 152s)
well when I hit 6000ms. I knoticed little red tracers. sgt patato had arrived with his p 51 friends. (which didnt last long...) So anywho, my wingmen and I dived in... around the same time hunter & schroeder had reatched the target, and also found some B 17s...
Meanwhile... back on the southeastern front!
My one of my wingmens shells found patato, and filled the country side with more plane parts, and I turnt a p 51 or 2 into more craters on the front.(this place is starting to look like the moon... lol) and after the little furball with the 51s... I went to go see if I could get a b 17... (cause I heard there were some from hunter/schroeder...) But then (I think) I heard hunter say that a flak/mg gun hit turnt his 262 into an automatic bbq. so he had to bail... but they had brought down quite afiew of them... but one... just would not go down... (unlike schroeders aamo which did) but like all things, it eventualy went down.

Back in the TA 152s...

I sat in my seat scaning the horizon... and suddently... I look down. "oah look, a lone p 47." so I took a dive, one short burst, and there was now a p 47 in 2 parts. eventualy schroeders b 17 went down, and we rtbed,but at base all was not well. 2 contacts, not ares, and flak. schroeder being out of aamo and all, I attacked are friends. (a P47&spitfire.) eventualy we thought everything that was gonna kill us was down... but one thing still was up we were not aware of... SPITFEUER!!! somehow a crazy spitfire pilot who I had been hunting down for the past 30 mins (rough estimant) had gotten past my fighter sweep...

I was going to intercept, but it was too late... even at 700kms I couldnt get on him soon enough... he distroyed one of are glorious planes. (but not any of us...) so eventualy schroeder landed on the grass runway, and made his way through the peices of oberon... while me and my 152s made there way back to base...

next mission... how the hell did it turn winter so fast!!!:rotfl2:

ACHTUNG mission number 2!!!

The ta 152s must have dissapeared... but the D 9 was back! hunter had became a trader to the vaderland but schroeder had stayed, to fly a 190...

I got up to 4000m and saw alot of tracers, and some explotion... appears the b 25s arrived. so I dived in. and invited schroeder in on the fun. sadly hunter took a hit in his wing from flak. but Oberon was still up. so I got back up, and dived in on him... in one pass I effectivly distroyed one of his engine and turnt his right wing into cheese... but schroeder took him out the rest of the way.

eventualy I found a p 38, and took him down. then the real fight started... 3 spitfires had found there way to my area. then the engagement began. soon I found myself on the spitfires tail. fireing my guns, and puting him down... but the second spitfire found out that aiminng helps and put a nice hole in my wing, and busted alot of my gauges... except for my compas that didnt know if I was going west or south...:hmmm:.which made the plane have a horriable drag on its right because of its right wing and harder to fly because of all the broken stuff. but eventualy they dissapeared. and schroeder and I rtbed... schroeder doing a nice landing in his fw 190... and me comeing in in a shot up plane pulling to its right really hardly... eventualy I realised... I undershot the runway... landing right infront of it... turning a complete 360 degrees before comeing to a stop.

One thing about il2... if everything else on your plane is broken on landing... aslong as you still have wings, the flaps always work... lol

in the end... only me and schroeder made it back to base again... lol

The first mission was a total bust really, with just myself and Spud against Schroeder and Hunter in Me-BBQs and TF in some random 190 copy.
Spud bought the farm about half-way through, I think the AI got him, I spent the time at high altitude waiting for the inevitable 262 or TAthing attack. I spotted what most have been one of the TAthings, then lost it, then found it again after it tried shooting at me (and missed) and went after it, then lost it again after a head-on pass.
So, despairing of finding any sign of the 262s, I decided on the old Allied trick of getting them as they come into land. Unfortunately the Jerry flak coverage is pretty good and I get badly beat up and decided to Allah Ackbar into the airfield in a vain attempt to kill someone.

The second mission I've already described ;)

I still reckon IL2 needs a 'dump fuel' option for when fire extinguishers don't seem to work. I knew it was only a matter of time before my fuel tank went up and my wing went off unless I could get that damn fire out.

You can also (temporarily) extinguish a fire by flying very fast (usually you need to dive to get that speed). Unfortunately the fire will start again and again.:down:

btw. excellent aar's going on with the bob2 :yeah: I got mine reinstalled but for some reason i've still got some of the graphical issues i had before the 2.10 patch. :damn: the game should be running cock-on with 2 X nvidia9500gt 1gb cards in sli mode and 8g ram..I still get this damn tearing effect going through the sky :-?

I'm getting issues with the high level clouds, they occasionally look like they're got grids going through them, but that's something I can live with. I take it you've looked over at Shockwave though?

you won't miss much in IL2 as I'm going to have a little break to get things sorted with our campaigns, seems we've run out of them and the last few we tried where binned in less then 10 minutes because it simply wasn't going to work. it's driving me nuts and I dont think others are enjoying it as well.

so what I'm trying to do is to find a series of campaign going from Early War to Later war (in that order) and we play together in one side.
I could give DCG another try (yes, I'm that desperate)
and I figure it has been updated.. (wonder if there is a proper DCG campaign on the proper Battle of Britain map:hmmm:)
DCG would be the easiest solution to play something from Early till Late war. (thought I still guess the Bomber part of DCG is still bogus and makes no sense ''the 3 squadrons of heinkels taking on some flak guns'') so I guess we have to focus on the Fighters and the dive bombers but forget strategic bombing in DCG.

so what say you?

I say we start out with the first campaign, and go to the end... (or atleast till we get our old friend the transfer bug...)

As I said on Monday, the thing about DCG is that you have to find the good campaigns, not the completely boring (Normandy 41) or the endlessly broken (Leningrad 41) campaigns.

There's an interesting moving dogfight map featuring the Stringbag that I've just been playing. Hunting a wolfpack off the Illustrious. Snag is, it's pitch bloody black dark :haha: You can just about make out the periscope trial but since most of the uboats are (wisely) submerged, you have to be pretty accurate where you drop your bombs. Therefore, it's an idea to fly in flights of two, both carrying three 500lb bombs and eight flares. The lead pilot drops the flare for the follow up to bomb with, and then the roles reverse.
Very atmospheric though :up:

But getting back to the thread at hand, yes, I propose we go back to DCG, I think our problem with Normandy was, well, it was the wrong theatre for that era. Not a great deal happened over Normandy in the daytime between 40-44, aside from the odd bomber raid to Germany which is hard to model with just one or two British bombers! So it's a case of scramble, shoot down Blennie or Spit, RTB repeated ad nauseum.
Desert campaigns seem to work well with DCG, as do Eastern front campaigns, although I think we've done them to death.

We only did early Eastern Front campaigns, we binned DCG at the start of our rather disastrous Stalingrad '42 campaign.

EDIT: I mean we binned our first DCG grand campaign, the second one after Leningrad 41.

and when things get repeatative we transfer to a different squadron (change the campaign) and transfering the pilot status with us.
