View Full Version : Hahaha, Political correctness gone wild

Oh for crying out loud! :damn:
While on the subject (kinda), could someone tell me what's so darn bad about calling someone black? :-?

It is getting a bit out of control. Soon we will not communicate at all for fear of offending.
Me: 'Good morning Dowly!'
Dowly: 'I can not believe he just said that? What was he thinking?'

Does the pc brigade realise that by trying to be politically correct, they're actually doing the opposite? It's a classic example of busy bodies with too much time on their hands.
Oh and as a fully paid up member of the left handed society, can I just say I am not offended by the term right-hand man. Would the pc brigade kindly stop trying to talk for me and sod off...thank you. Better yet, do the world a favour and take a leap of Beachy Head, but you'd probably think that's offensive to blondes or something.

Verdammte Scheiße...! There are some pseudo-intellectual onanistas who are totally overpayed and have far too much time left to waste it for producing bullsh!t like this. If it enrages me then only for the reason that the desinterest of the broad public gives them the opportunity to ursurp (ursupate?) power and start dominating contemporary culture. In fact, people should rally in the streets and chase these idiots with flying stones out of town, out of the country, and if everything goes optimal: into the deep, deep sea, while one is already at it.
The German saying goes that the smarter man gives way ("der Klügere gibt nach"). But the result is that the silly and the idiots rule the world.

That's mighty white of you.:rotfl:
Oh, and as one poster on that remarks forum said, we need to eliminate dexterity and sinister, as they both refer to right-and-left-handedness.

I can't look into their heads, and frankly I don't want to, but I think it was actually the word "man" that they thought could be offensive to women. Whatever it was tho, it's still crazy. I'm left handed too and don't feel offended by the term either btw.

Very fine examples of the 'euphemism treadmill'. And a good example for the fact that some people's toes are so big that you can't help stepping on them.
It's say: Let's just call a spade an African American :rotfl:

That's been determined to be racist also. The new term is "Shovel of Color".
I think PC is remarkable for another reason too, its the only thing that the entire Subsim community seem to hate.:rotfl:

And I'm glad it is like that, yesterday I browsed the comments to a newspaper article, about the Microsoft Ad disaster in Poland, from a newspaper that is pretty far to the left, and the comments were full of PC sh*t.
Dozens of quangos and taxpayer-funded organisations have ordered a purge of common words and phrases so as not to cause offence. Shock horror! useless waste of time committee wastes time and taxpayers money to come up with new and ever more soulless ways to make the world a colour somewhere between nondescript grey and beige.
These people need a collective term; I will tender 'Golgafrinchians'.
All in favour say 'Aye'.

Aye! Let's put them all in a shuttle and set it towards the Sun. Then maybe reason might return to this world. Christ, these words are a part of the English culture, you can't just decide to remove them by an order. That's totalitarianism, not democracy. They just make me sick.
Truly, why don't we stop communicating for a while. It might put the chaps out of work and we'll have some peace afterwards.

Controlling language means controlling people's thinking. See Orwell's 1984.

Ah, yes. I knew I found the whole idea very familiar and threatening when I read the article. Must be time I re-read the book.

Being careful with the language you use is not wrong.
Legislating language is legally and morally questionable, and half-baked non-ideas such as in the article here are ridiculous.
I imagine that the reason such guidelines were given out is more to avoid spurious litigation than avoid causing offense.
