Hi all,
Now that I'm playing SH4 on a laptop, I discover that I miss my numpad keys. (My laptop has no numerical keypad.)
Is there an (easy) way to remap the shortcut keys for "time compression" and "hide interface" (which was Numpad Delete) to new keys?
Thanks!

:hmmm: Most laptops have "blue keys" ... you hold down the "Function" (Fn) key while pressing whatever key has a blue label. The Numpad "Del" key is also the Numpad "." key ... try using the corresponding Function key and see if it hides the orders bar.
If it doesn't work, you can remap keys by editing the (IIRC) "commands.cfg" file.

Thanks.
I seem to have no blue function-enabled keys (other than the function row at the top of the keyboard). There's no "shadow" numpad on my Dell.
Is there a simple tutorial for keymapping in SH4 available? I searched but did not find.

Find the correct file (I think it's called commands.cfg) in your game folder.
Drag a backup copy of the file to your Desktop.
Open the in-game file using Notepad.
Examine the file carefully ... determine how keys are mapped.
Find the key you want to remap.
Find a mapped key you never plan to use.
Modify the file by switching keymap functions.*
Save the file.
Launch the game and test your mod.
If it works, congratulations. If it doesn't, replace your modded file with the backup you dragged to Desktop.
* Either that, or determine which keys have not yet been mapped and use one of them instead. Some keys are disabled (via the semicolon in front of the command line) ergo, you have a ready-made key and its corresponding keycode.

If your laptop is like mine, i have to do FN + home / num lk key, in order to alternate between navigational controls (heading to view & 0 rudder) & attack periscope, (up / down) or vice versa.
They both use the same buttons on my keypad. :k_confused:
Happy holidays.

You can buy numerical keypads that plug in the USB, they are not expensive:

Probably your best bet. As Col says, they are not expensive and a lot easier to use.
Also, DL SHKeymapper from the downloads section and use it to change commands.cfg. It's easier than TextEdit on that file.
