I did not play SH4, I only played SH3 but I wonder if it will be realistic enough to implement the possibility to lose crew members in rough\high sea.
It would add an important element in the game in my opinion, maybe I am being to picky though :arrgh!:

Nope, I've thought about that too. Swimming around the sub on a calm day would be fun (with sharks), loosing crew members in rough weather would be realistic, and it would require care when walking on top of the sub. And if they want to do some sort of emergency escape from a damaged sub, they will need to let the crew swim. It would be nice to also have a sort of Enemy Renown that influences if you're picked up out of the water or left there to sink :yeah:.
Maybe if implemented alongside the malfunctions, and making it really, really rare, I think that's a good idea.
Hopefully time compression is very accurate when it drops though.
"Kaleun! We have a crew member overboard!"
"I don't see him!"
"Oh, it was 4km back, you're far too late"

:har: Well, I believe they already intend to give the crew a bit of AI :know:. No offence, but if I'm on the loo and the alarm goes off, it would take me a full 30 seocnds to walk to the bridge, by which time the said airplane would've already turned my sub into a black hole. The crew must think for themselves. If a crew member falls, they would order a full stop, throw the poor guy a life buoy and fish him out, hurt or just shaken (and cold). In roudh weather, the rate of success would drop ofc. One incident per 2-3 patrols would keep things realistic. And it would retain you from ordering external torpedo loading during bad weather or keeping the crew on deck during a hurricane. Or taking nice pictures from the bow :har:
BTW, good point, malfunctions are a must (as annoying as they are).

"Man Overboard!": how about if you suddenly get a death screen that says YOU were washed overboard and lost at sea? Not me, thanks.
"ALAAARM!": I agree with karamazovnew that I would like to see the crew order crash dives where appropriate, and take shallow water into account as well.
I also agree about external torpedo loading, but in fact they didn't reload internal torpedoes in bad weather unless they were deep enough for the weather to have no effect, and they didn't usually reload while in combat, as a steep dive angle could play havock with a ton of steel and explosives swinging from a hoist chain.

Good point Steve, I've made a habit of not loading torpedoes unless the weather was calm or I was deep below and with no enemy around. Seing a DD on the horizon while unloading 50% of an external reserves must've been quite a show in real life :har:.
By the way the captain has magnetic boots tht prevent him from falling in the water. Didn't you know that?!!! :arrgh!:

Reminds me a bit of K-19: The Widowmaker, with the torpedo loading accidents.
Yes, please. Maybe tie it with the weather conditions, if you sail surfaced in the worst possible weather the game has to offer, there is a chance to lose some, or in worst case all, of your watch crew.

An incredibly sad event befell U-106 on this date. When the replacement watch opened the tower hatch in rough seas they found out that the entire previous tower watch of 4 men had been washed overboard.
