What is the difference between an attack periscope and an observation periscope on a U-boat?
Thanks

Are you asking about the difference in the game or the difference in real life?

I was thinking historically, in real life.
Thanks
The field of view of observation scope was larger which made it handy for looking around. The attack periscope was built to have just enough FOV to be able to target ships with.
Structurally, the obs scope was larger and was risky to use if enemy planes were though of being around due to the bigger chance of the 'eye' reflecting sunlight.

The larger Obs Scope also allowed in more light, so was more useful at night.

The AS also had the cable wrapped around it to help minimize the wake, whereas the OS did not.

I thought the cable was to reduce the vibrations not the wake.

Every time I play SH5 I use the AP. With the AP I can go to a depth of 16 meters, with the OP the max depth is 12m.
However in the movies I have seen the captain use the AP ony ONCe, i Das Boot. Even in the Wochenschau movies, or in U-Boote Westwärts I see the captain use the OP, where is the advantage of the OP?? ANd why should anyone use the AP??
Anyone have any ideas??
