Hello all! I am using Sh3+GWX+Commander and I use the weapons officer to formulate torpedo solutions, my question is how do I aim the torpedoes themselves? People always talk about the best aiming point but I just hit lock on my attack periscope and when they approach a 90 degree AoB I fire. Thanks!
Ello,
Assuming your firing solution is correct
- point your periscope until gyro angle says 000
- open tubes
- wait for the part of the ship you want to hit to be at the angle your periscope is at (gyro angle still 000), and shoot.
+/- 10 degrees each way seems to work fine too, so technically you could aim yourself just by pointing the periscope within that threshold for multiple torps if firing them individually rather than salvo.
I'm still quite new to manual targeting though, so I haven't tried to stretch beyond +/- 10 degrees. But the above seems to be deadly accurate every single time (assuming correct calculations) :sunny:
- Edit - GWX3 here also.

I was in a jittery rush during a daylight, flat calm attack on a convoy. Got between a couple of the columns and let fly with the forward tubes. Spun the scope around to loose-off the stern tube at the nearest ship that was approaching behind me, but at 10x mag (accidentally moved my mouse wheel) I targeted the wrong one. As the scope retracted, I noted the gyro angle was 32° - "Verdamt! What a waste", I thought... but I got a hit! So you can get lucky!

Mmmmm very lucky indeed! I was attacking a convoy while patrolling the west entrance to The Channel and I sunk 2 merchants and spun to throw some stern torps in my VIIB and then destroyers descended upon me in shallow water and for the first time I actually died! I have decided to start over with a Type IIA boat which...really sucks! How can anybody sink ANYTHING in this tin can?! I am confined to the bay area!
