Hi

Is it possible to remove the deck gun later in career? Some subs don't have a deck gun in late war. I've had my VIIc since the beginning of the war but now in mid 1943 I want it removed since it looks more "pro". Of course, you can get the last conning tower upgrade with three heavy flak emplacements but is it another way?

Thanks :sunny:

My advice would be to use SH3 Commander also. It is a standalone programme which enhances the options of GWX gameplay tremendously.

Thirded. One of the most helpful and steady additions to SH3.

You won't regret it,its brilliant and really adds to immersion factor.
As well as giving you control over many aspects of gameplay, such as removing the deck gun:salute::salute::salute:

Be sure to install the GWX cfg files for SH3 Commander.

I've got the latest SH3 Commander - but there is no option to remove the deck gun. Am I missing something or do I have to fiddle with the files?

No, you don't have to monkey with any of the files. I believe the remove deck gun option is under the "Click for available actions" menu. Poke around in the menus...you'll find it.

When you open up Sh3Cmdr and your looking at the piccy of the chap in charge, your Kaleun:03:On the page opposite is the U-boat number and type of U-boat,if you click on U-boat type it will give you the option to 'Remove'
Thats all you need to do:yeah:

Glad to help out, remember though, removing the D/G doesn't give you any increase in underwater speed:nope:
And its 'Sods' law that as soon as you do something good will appear on the horizon and you'll have no eels left.....and no D/G either:wah:
This scenario happened to me,removed the Gun as per KM stipulation, and on the way home bumped into 2 medium merchie's with no escort, and calm 'millpond' like conditions :damn: Had to watch them sail away with nothing to do but curse:cry::cry:

Bah:down:. It really should give you a speed boost with with the deck gun and all the ammunition gone. But I just wanted it removed since I was never able to use it in late war because of all the merchies armed to their teeth, and it looks pretty cool without it:yep:. More "pro" and more like a submarine if you know what I mean:arrgh!:

Thanks for the deck gun help gents! It's really easy but you have to know it...

If you want to increase submerged speed, roll back SH Commander and edit

If I remember right, the reason why there was no corresponding increase in speed added by the modders was that no data exists on how much speed was added by removing the deck gun. Was it a half a knot? A full knot? A fraction of a knot? Who knows!

Should it? Pls provide your conclusive data so we all can put this never ending question to bed.

You may like to read through this... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=92490 and this http://www.uboat.net/forums/read.php...5071#msg-65071 (http://www.uboat.net/forums/read.php?20,65071,65071#msg-65071)

Do you hear crickets in response to VH's request for solid data?

Nearly every one says--as if it's fact--that "you should get a speed boost" but no-one provides conclusive data so it's all merely speculative. With no conclusive data ever provided, the choice not to model any positive effects was really a no brainer, especially when, in the absence of proof, the arguments against any positive effects are so damning.

Also keep in mind - any positive effects would be more than offset through upgrading your conning tower, wintergarten, or adding a snorkel...yet no-one seems to complain that SH3 doesn't decrease their boat's performance when such equipment is added. :hmmm:

Sorry:oops:. When looking at it from your point of view I agree. Thanks for the links though. I'll give the (your shooting days are over) MOD a try just for the fun of it.

Which is why I like linking to that thread - it provides both a mod "for" as well as comments "against" performance enhancement. So you can pick a viewpoint that suits you and run with it.
