I am very interested to hear of anyone with experince using both DC and SH II.... DC looks like one of the most sophisiticated surface ship sims yet, i know there are graphics limitations, but it may be possible to upgrade that or adopt some mods to improve things but the multiplayer surface vs sub aspect is very interesting to me. I have heard scuttlebut that this never worked very well, but i would still like to hear any experience anyone has had, i have both games and the patch installed. Is there a manaul supliment that covers the combined play?

It had problems in its original configuration, but Subsim here created its own software ( Projekt Messerwetzer ) which greatly improved it. Available from its download section.

A major part of Subsim once consisted of the Wolfpack and Eagle Leagues which were exclusively for on line multiplayer. It flourished with regular games for several years. They meet at this forum now for old times sake, but games are far and few between.

I've had multiplayer operating on a LAN successfully for several years.
DC v DC ( Fleet actions)
DC v SH2

I never tried on line.

BTW You are quite right. DC/SH2 has some amazingly powerful features. Its multiplayer ability is often overlooked.

ok, got em

i see the 1.1 patch, got that

but there are TWO Projekt Messerwetzer patches....both uploaded on the same date:

Projekt Messerwetzer Destroyer Command patch v1.03 (4.30 MB)
Projekt Messerwetzer multiplayer patch (6.44 MB)

do we add them both AFTER we do the 1.1? thanks

I was a core tester for the SH2/DC upgrade PM>
"Projekt Messerwetzer".

You can have a real nice online game with 4 to 6 players.*we had 8 once and it worked fine.*
One person must be the host,give his ip to other players then start the server.
The players wait 4 to five min and then connect.
The read me for PM will have all the info for set up.There are a few SH2/DC players around..I play DC on the laptop.Vista works well with it.:rock:
Any questions ..I'll do the best to remember how it all works.

I also have a large stash of SH2/DC mods...sound,missions and the resupply at sea mod.

However,I will not be home till next Saturday,and thats were the disks are.:shifty:

Also..to get rid of the SH2 screen blanker..the black screen of death.

Go to the SH2 icon,right click and in the properties target box fix it to read:
Shell/Shell
Not Shell/Exe or what ever it says.

That stops it.

Kapt, thanks you VERY much for that info esp the tip on the BSOD :) that will be very helpful and I would be very interested in getting some of those mods if you can find them. I hope to collect resources for all of this, as it is important to find things when we can. :)

I see from studying the notes that the top number is about 11 and I think it would be awesome to be able to play an engagement with multiple players using both surface and sub surface units. I have a lot of learning on the helm to do with all of this but thanks so much for your kind post and it is very good to hear from you.

UPDATE: ok, i just checked the models for SHII in the model viewer and i am wondering...are there any mods to improve the default ships? some of them are just god awful... the US Battleships for instance, and the US cruisers, they need to be lowerred to the waterline about almsot half, and there are no heavy Italian units making it impossible to make campaigns for some of the Med events.... so i am curious if anyone made or can make improved ships. PS.. i found the download section..i see ship mods that make help a lot, i was very hopeful there were sone.

Good news is that there seem to be enought units for a lot...but

no Japan? or maybe i was rushing thru things....

i love the period menu screens they are cool.

Another question: i see Fletchers Mega mod, it looks great but does anyone knoow how to disable one of the features? the generic contact image? i want to be able to see what is coming at me, i enjoy realism but not to this degreee....the read me says:

* New Contact ID Mod. When a surface or air contact becomes visible on the map, you will only see a generic grey icon. No other information will be available to you. Greater emphasis has been placed on your sound man, as it was historically. This will incorporate changed icons, changed sound files, changed messages (for several stations), etc and should provide for more realistic gameplay and challenge.

but many of the other features of this mod look good.

final question, I am assuming we cant play multiplayer with mods loaded? or can we if we have the same ones?

Mod play...all must have the same setup,or it will drop the odd mod.
When we started it was with Teamspeak and we all sounded off that we were mod free or what we had in.

I tested the fireball mod with people who were stock and it worked,so that ones ok to have in if others dont.

When I do get home,I'll put the sh2/dc stuff on a new disk or send it zip files by email,you pick it.
I think I have 3 or 4 disks of stuff from the test days and just about every mod..the Das Boot sound mod is the best.

I even have the "play BB" mod by Gstew that lets you command a battleship.:up:

Fletchers Mega mod...dont know,maybe Sailor'Steve might know about it.I delt with SH2 on the test/script side.

There are quite a lot of improved ships out there somewhere. KaptKirk's bundle probably has a lot of them.

There's a complete set of Italian ships that a group called Marcosom created. They made full mods for both SH2 and DC. All the ships are there including an aircraft carrier.

Raising/lowering ship's waterline is fairly easy. Open the corresponding unit file (UDF) and add a line like this
TRANSLATE = O,O,O

The three zeros represent the three different dimensions for shifting the ships position relative to the waterline. The middle one is up/down.

You need to experiment with the values .
Something like TRANSLATE = 0,-1,0 will lower it.

Here's an example from the stock Leander

;; NCLLeander.UDF - Leander class light cruisers
[UNIT]
Category = SHIP
Type = LT_CRUISER
Class = Leander
Model = NCLLeander
Origin = England
Date = 3505
Crew = 570
UpdatesPerSecond = 10
ExemptFromSilliness = TRUE
Preprocess = TRUE
Translate = 0,-0.5,0

excellent thank you, those crusiers are fairly good but it has been painful to see them riding so high in the water, as if they had no fuel on board, which is very unlikely way out to sea.

I would LOVE to see that italian package, is there a link or a website for that? I noted there were only Italian DD and light Cruisers and that is sad compared to the wonderful fleet that they developed. Their ships were some of the most advanced and beautiful of that era. Too bad their command was not up to the challenge, tho they faced many hurdles and a very limited sea area which was easiliy dominated by air power.

They should all be in the Mare Nostrum full mod below.

wow, that looks amazing. Those ships are excellent and it was very nice of them to create an entire English version of this. That looks like a very elegant and complete mod. Thank you so much for sharing that.

the actual english version of the mod is here:

there was one file that they said would be necessary i could not find on their down load section...called pmdc103install maybe that is the name of the main installer, i will try to sign up for their forum and find out.

Keep in mind that one PM is for SH2 and one is for Destroyer Command. Don't put them into the wrong game, or you'll be back with a lot more questions and complaints.
