View Full Version : Can I edit a weather cfg file to give me good weather all the time?

Hi guys,
I am sure this has been asked a hundred times and I've looked at some weather threads here but I have not found the answer to my specific question.
I just started a new career 1939 and I recently managed to put together enough renown to move on to a better boat with a deck gun. The problem is that this weapon can only be used in good weather - so I want to edit the responsible cfg file so that the weather is always calm and I can always use my deck gun.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure which values I should change and replace with the appropriate numbers. Thanks for the advice in advance. :)

Hey caw not sure about the files, but I do know that there is a mod out that allows you to use your deck gun in ANY weather..although it is very difficult in stormy weather as far as gunnery is concerned. Just thought I'd let you know in case you don't want to have it sunny skies all the time I can try to find the link.

I'm sure I noticed a file the other day that listed the various weather states. wind speeds, rain etc. In theory you can set the weather to be perminantly whatever you want. Some folks here like dense fog, some prefer dead calm. I'll go see if I can find that file again and get back to you.

You can still use the deck gun in dark stormy weather without mods..
Just use sonar, get range and bearing and shoot that way. Best to get within 1000 yards. Once you set it afire easy to see. I've sunk many ships far away, but easier close up.

Thanks for the help, tips and links! You guys rock! :yeah:
This is such a friendly forum! You should see how heated things get over on the IL-2 Sturmovik forums, Carspin.net or Germancarzone.com! :D

Great edit, Jimbuna! Had a blast just a few moments ago. Came across a big convoy with over 15 ships escorted by 3 corvettes or light destroyers. The weather was really rough but I managed to sink all 3 corvettes (using the pizza hull and ammo cheat), then had my damage control team repair the light damage - and then I had some fun with the convoy.
Too bad that 5 of the ships were neutral - American cargo ships. I didn't sink them but I did fire on the Sherman tanks on their decks! :yeah:
By the way, is there any way to fix the save game issue here? Whenever I load a saved game after a few seconds I get a notification that the career is over or something. It's so annoying. :damn:

"Neutral" ships carrying war material are fair game and my be attacked. Unfortunately the game will penalize you. So to get around the illegal penalty, edit the saved game file to remove the amount of negative renown you are unfairly assigned.
SHIII bug limits the saved game file. You cannot save a game if you are within 50 nMiles of land or a convoy, sometimes even another single ship, or submerged. This is inconsistent as sometimes you can get away with it, but don't count on it.
Editing the cfg files to give you good weather all the time will not work. This will help: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=424 used along with the above all weather guns, noted above.
The seas will still be heavy, however.

All I can say is you 100k+ tonnage /manual targeting/100%reality/OLC guys rock!
With the weather/waves always beating you up its a beeouch to get a good fix on the target and launch the eel correctly/consistently/accurately.
After going 100%reality and OLC, about 2 months ago, I have come to hate looking at any water that does not resemble a ice skating rink.
But I refuse to give up !

Thanks for the great help! :)
Was this save game bug never properly fixed? It would have been nice if Ubisoft Romania released a patch that fixed this problem.
