Heyas,

I managed to find the time to give SH3 a go again, this time with GWX3 installed and realism at 100% (no external cam etc). It certainly made things a lot more interesting, which is excellent :sunny:

And now to the question:
I had an unfortunate run in with some depth charges in my VII, March 05, 1940, and three 'sink to the bottom and somehow recover when all was lost' moments later I escape the escorts.

Now at this stage, the only thing I can do is return to base. I surface once I'm confident I'm away from my harassers have left (surprised to get back to the surface at all to be honest) and find myself limping quite badly.

Forward batteries are destroyed, as is my hydrophone, and radio antenna. In addition, stb and port diesel engines are destroyed along with stb electric engine and compressor. Both obs and attack periscope are out.

And water is spraying everywhere >.< the noise!

So I set about making a journey the 800km from Londonderry, Ireland to Torshovn, a neutral port in the north, hoping I might be able to get some repairs before sinking forever (loud spraying sound and all)

I manage 150km on my journey before my 2knots speed turns into 1knot, turns into zero knots. Battery dead. >.<

At this point, I look at the map just in time to see Torshovn turn fron neutral, to enemy >.< So the only other alternative is the 2000km to Bergen.

Fine fine, at least we're alive right? :nope: So I set course and off we go. I am travelling at < 0 knots (not drift). I'm managing about 4km per day and I have 1426 left to go to the nearest friendly port.

1) Any ideas as to how I could speed things up a bit? There's no way to repair destroyed things I'd assume, no one is coming to assist, and the crew in my electrics are at max efficiency.

2) What am I running on? Battery says empty, and diesels are out so they won't charge. Is this a fail safe specifically for the game to avoid being left stranded without being able to go anywhere, or is there some other explanation.

Incidentally, along with the sound of the water rushing in, I just hit crash dive by accident and the alarm got stuck. Now we have wooshing water + alarm bell that never ends + < 0 knots to destination which is now 1423 km away.:stare:

Doomed to spend three months returning home? I hope I don't run into anything red. I couldn't even ram it.

:haha: Cheers mate.

1100 to go! Time for sleep I think. I'll finish it tomorrow. And if I don't get some decent medals for this...

This of course assumes that nothing is lurking on the journey home.

Really determined to do a proper no reloads campaign and survive, so the handgun is out I'm afraid. Though the war might be over soon. Just ride out the next four years maybe.

You must have slept through the Introduction to Sailing class offered at Palau. Gather the under garment from all your men and find a big pole.:haha:

never mind...

If it will take you 1400 days to get back to port, you will definitely run out of food first.
Just send a un-coded message to Churchill to arrange a pick up. Be sure to destroy all sensitive equipments first. Look on the bright side, with any luck, you will be spending the west of the war in Sunny Arizona.:sunny:

Thanks for the welcome :)

So despite really not wanting to, I think the food point is a good one. Although the radioman died in the attack, I doubt he'd last long when everything else is off :P Seriously though, RIP U-45 crew. Could have been a malfunction, could have been sunk, could be a ghost ship found empty floating around in a few years time, who knows.

And, begin again, hopefully lasting a little bit longer.

Try drifting over to Ireland. I hear they're pro-German. Settle down, find a nice Irish girl, build a house by the sea and spend your afternoons looking out the window at the blue ocean and its waves drinking a Baileys on the rocks. :yeah:

It's what I would do! I've always wanted to see Ireland too! :D

I was going to say to hit the top secret teleport button found in the control room and teleport back home, but I understand that it is disabled at 100% difficulty settings.

Looks like you need to get Bernard's dirty sheets out and and knit them into a sail. Maybe have Bernard hang his legs off the stern and start kicking too. :D

Just thank your god that it is not 1943 and there are masses of aircraft hunting you.

Good luck.
:)
