REMEMBER THIS IN THE 2010 MID TERM ELECTIONS!!!!
All Hail Queen Nancy's 757
The Jet is a USAF Boeing 757.
*And they STILL want to talk about Sarah's clothing??
People,..... Are you out there?
*MADAME PELOSI*
Madame Pelosi wasn't happy with the small private jet that comes with the Speaker's job... No, Madame Pelosi was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat 200 seat jet that could get her back to California without stopping!
Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed everyone what Nancy's Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American Taxpayers, for the thousands of gallons of fuel every week.
Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California, cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000 one way!
As Joe put it, 'Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday Night.'
Cost to us is another $60,000. Folks, that is $480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to the taxpayers of $5,760,000.No wonder she complains about the cost of this war...it might cramp her style and she is styling, on my back and yours.
I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country, keeps fueling that jet while doing nothing.
Madame Pelosi wants you and me to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants us to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires.
These people are nuts.
If you think this is outrageous, forward it to all those on your email list!
Keep in mind the figures above do NOT include cost of plane or crew, just fuel!
One wonders what her total package cost us?
And she wants to tax OUR Ira's & 401K's.....
YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS IN ANY NEWSPAPERS IN THE COUNTRY! THEY HAVE NO GUTS - THEY WOULD RATHER SEE PEOPLE STARVING THAN REPORT ON THE MONSTER THAT IS NANCY PELOSI!

And people still are passing on this rumour???
sigh :(
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_nancy_pelosi_order_up_a_200-seat.html
The Democratic House speaker normally flies in a 12-seat Air Force jet, just as her Republican predecessor did. This rumor stems from a request by the House sergeant at arms, not Pelosi, for a jet large enough to reach California without refueling.
Honestly, this ranks up there with the tin-foil hat wearers worrying about Obama's birth certificate.

I would say the same thing about the past Speakers of the House. Other than Newton, who remembers the Speaker of the House? Or what they did prior??
Prior to Newton, I can't remember any Speaker getting much press or attention.

Oh come on guys, you are frustrating me. I can't remember a SINGLE chainmail that was presented here that contained truth. Why do people keep posting them? Don't we ever learn?:damn:

Maybe, but since when do Sergeants at Arms get into the jet requesting business for members of Congress?

Since 9/11 when the security duties of the job were extended to include the Speakers travel.

Nope not one shred of truth there... none...
I agree about the chain emails, I rarely get them and when I do they get deleted.
But the fact of the matter is that Princess Pelosi did request this jet along with others.
See the learjet liberal thread.
Since 9/11 when the security duties of the job were extended to include the Speakers travel.
I haven't seen anything written to that effect but let me ask Platapus another question, who hires the Congressional Sergeant at Arms?
We will never get out of the hole they have dug, For future generations. I will post here in the chain mail thread, another voted into law Congressional retirement plan that puts social security for the shame. When will they put there panties on one leg at a time ? Such greed !

SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.
You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves.. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.
In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments...
For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7, 800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.
This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.
Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.
Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA!!! ZILCH!!!
This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;
"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!
From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire(which amount is matched by our employer), We can expect to get an average of
$1,000 per month after retirement.
Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!
Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.
That change would be to
Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen.. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us
Then sit back.....
And see how fast they would fix it!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.
How many people can YOU send this to?
Better yet......
How many people WILL you send this to?

I haven't seen anything written to that effect
Try USc 31 1108(g) and the CODEL for each of the sessions since 9/11
who hires the Congressional Sergeant at Arms?
If by hire you mean pays then you do if you are a taxpayer as he is a government employee, just like you paid for him in his previous government job.
If you mean who appoints him then he is chosen from a list of candidates submited to the house , in the case of the current one he has been chosen first by the republicans then again by them ,then has gone on getting hired variously by democrats and republicans each session, for his current term it was the democrats again.

I haven't seen anything written to that effect but let me ask Platapus another question, who hires the Congressional Sergeant at Arms?
The Sergeant-at-Arms is not hired but elected by the House. It appears that the Speaker of the House has the authority to nominate who they wish to be the Sergeant-at-Arms but there is a formality of a vote of the entire house.
http://clerk.house.gov/art_history/house_history/sergeants_at_arms.html
Gives a history of the position
http://clerk.house.gov/legislative/rules/rule2.html
Describes the official duties of the position
http://www.c-span.org/questions/weekly12.asp
The House Sergeant-at-Arms is Wilson Livingood, while Gregory Casey holds the position in the Senate. The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have the prerogative of selecting and nominating an individual for the post in their respective chambers. Their candidate must then be elected by majority vote of the full chamber, but this is a mere formality.
http://www.rules.house.gov/archives/98-835.pdf
Is a fact sheet from the CRS on the position
