I am new to submarine simulation put have played "Train Simulator" for years. That being said I have to admit that I find trying to calculate and plot an intercept course rather confusing. If I ever went to 100% realism, forget it! Is their a tutorial or mod available that makes this task easier to understand?
Thanks in advance.

:) Hi there raallison :)
You're gonna be addict to this game , I promise you that :yep:
Many exiting moments , joyful , mysteries journeys , stunning moments ,
and so on .
WELCOME TO SUBSIM :woot:
I SALUTE EVERY NEW MEMBER :salute::salute:
Hello and welcome!
StarLion is right:
You're gonna be addict to this game.I would suggest the following. It is not easy to jump right into the difficult levels.
Just play the game without manual targeting, your Weapon Officer will do the job for you.
Sail with your U-Boat and do your mission job.
Later ... (not so quick), you will be able to understand this game and plotting. There are still people (here at subsim!), that play the game without manual plotting, just because they are not good in mathematics.
If you do it the way I suggest, you will see that you will love the game (and gameplay).
Good luck skipper! :arrgh!:

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
Looks like Red Heat posted the most important link you need. To add to what Rafael said, I would recommend sticking with Auto Targetting for awhile as well. If you want a more realistic experience, set Manual Targetting but leave Weapons Officer Assistance on. That way you won't get any automatic updates or information, but he will give all that to you any time you ask him.

Try just playing the sim at the level you can.
And work your way up in realism.
The tutorials might make more sense then.
Good Luck and Welcome Aboard :salute:

With all those crashes to CTD as you said , I think I have a solution to that .
when I start to play this game , and become a member of Subsim , I also had Crashes , not a few as to speak .
I posted and posted and pull my hair of and so on , and didn't understood absolutely nothing . But my dear friend , it wasn't the game that crashed ,
It was all the other mods I connected , some mods links to that mod , and some mods links to that mod :yep:
I think I admit this , is only my own fault if the game crashes :dead:
Some get into this and that file in the "cfg " area , and put this and that in those files , different skins I use , did I forgot to remove all those things ??!! , and so on .
Jimbuna , Sailor Steve , BBW , Privateer , etc etc , help me out , and teached me this :
" Don't mess around in the game if you aren't shure what you mess with "
And remember to REMOVE ALL THINGS THAT NOT BELONG THERE .

So you might really enabled the mods that are conflicting between each other. As I said in other thread it is possible also, but I had crashes with stock and with ONLY basic additional GWX mods enabled. These crashes still did not vanished, there might be less of them with GWX, but CTDs still exists no matter how many or how few additional mods we use.
So I'm keen to point out the structural side of SH3 engine itself to be unstable.

Welcome on board Raallison.
...And don't forget to read Silent Hunter III and SH3 Workshop forums from thread 1 to the last. That takes time too...
But it will provide you with a staggering amount of info, even with seemingly long forgotten threads. They are sometimes resurrected, but that can only be done by people like me for example, ( in all modesty ) that have amassed 5.3 GB of Internet site refs, pdf, pictures, videos, math formulas, Kaleun Stories, calculators, Maps, Manuals, Docs, Humour Stories, Historical Docs, Tech aspects of the game, music, Mod references ect... sometimes very hard to find unless you dig very hard... Don't hesitate to contact us or me for doc, ref, sites etc
Vielen Gluck
