I just had an encounter with a Jap Shiryatsu Destroyer. Moved into a somewhat decent attack position and fired two fish at him from 3000yrds.

It was night time and he didn't see the fish and sound his collision alarm literally two seconds before the first impact. Anyway, both torpedos struck him.....but DIDN'T i repeat DIDN'T sink him!!!!

He was listing badly but did not sink, and made no effort to come and find me either continued on his normal course.

I thought "bugger that for a waste of torpedos, i'm reloading and just going to ignore him" so that's what I did.

Is it normal for destroyers to take two torps and still be floating?? Correct me if i'm wrong but their armour was pretty thin no? A torpedo should've torn it in half, let alone two.... :o

Are you using any mod's? I know TMO made the DD's much stronger.

Obvious you want to hit them as near the keel as possible. That an be a problem early war, so know the keep depth. Before 43 I would plan to just leave then about 5 ft, or lower with contacts on. When torps are fixed, I would set them to run a foot below keel. With any ship, you want to hit in seperate places, one forward, one center..ect.....spread em some.

That's a fairly large DD. Were you using M14's? Two usually sinks one. I would think it would eventually slow it or stop it. Sometimes it takes a few hours. I do know with TMO I've had to put 3 in some of the DD's. I miss the one torp DTT bow shot.

In stock, seems one usually sunk them. TMO, I put 3 M14's in one last night and it didn't sink...why at the same time I've sunk a carrier with two. I think Duc is going to adjust them. He made them stronger so people can't blow them out of the water with deckguns, but it also made them much harder to sink with torps. The damage is related, so it you make a ship stronger against DG attack, it also makes it stronger against torps.
