Hi All,
When I was trained for lookout duties in the RN, more years ago than I care to remember! the first rule was that a report without a bearing was totally useless. so why then is there a constant litany of 'Ship Sighted', but no bearing in GWX3. After scanning all round and finding nothing I start to ignore these useless reports. If my bridge watch have such good eyesight why don't they share these nuggets with their skipper, who is obviously blind as a bat?

Hardcoded into game engine IIRC :hmmm:

So true! You're often left wondering...are they talking about the same ship that I can see...or is there a DD coming up my rear that I can't quite make out yet?
I'd drop this one in the SHV wish list as well!

Just bring an officer to the bridge and ask for baring and range. It isnt that hard.
I always ask the watch officer--the bearing and range are onlt one click away

The regular lookouts don't give the bearing and range because they're reporting it to the Watch Officer, and he can see it because they're pointing at it. When he reports it to you he does give both. I've always liked the way that works.
Of course you have to kick him in the pants to get him to go to his post, but that's another problem.
Nice to find this thread. yesterday I opened a similar thread - sorry for that. I discovered, that the watch officer does not tell range and bearing for escorts, he does that only for merchants (and perhaps for warships).
so if I hear
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted, Bearing ... Range ...."
it is a merchant (or warship).
But if I hear only
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted",
"Ship Spotted"
without bearing and range, it's a escort or destroyer and the only way to get the bearing is to go on the bridge and look in which direction the lookouts point with their hands.
by the way: If there would be a possibility to force the watch officer to tell range & bearing for escorts, too, there would be a very cool workaround for the "continuous ship spotted bug".

Yeah, I know, it's all your fault there's a problem. They don't remember the stock game at all, so they blame GWX for everything.
