It's time to put an end to all these U-boats sims. How much more can there be. It will be a repeat of all that has been played out.
Too much has been emphasized and credited to U-boats.

TIME OF GREAT NAVAL BATTLES IN THE ATLANTIC TO BEGIN.

Battles between the British and German navies had some great moments in the Atantic Campaign.
How about coming up with some descency and respect for the German Navy of World War Two. These men and ships served and fought in some fine outstanding battles and no credit was given them.
If they were given more freedom to command instead of following orders from Berlin, they would have fought and died with honour.

It's time that these GAME COMPANIES started to focus on this part of the war and show what Naval Battles are all about.
Let get the players into commanding some outstanding battleships, cruisers, destroyers and surface raiders.

Using the same idea as the U-boats, put this format into commanding naval forces of both sides.
See how well the players will compete on large or small scale naval battles.

I agree -- Ubisoft will likely keep the "Silent Hunter" name brand...and Kpt. Lehmann's suggestion to keep the title versatile (as to include all campaign areas: ATO, PTO, Med, Indian Ocean, Black Sea, etc.) is key, so here are my amended title choices (plus a few new ones)...in no particular order of preference:

I have my theory about making a nice name.
The familie of donitz sure wouldn't like it that there grandfathers name is put on a game so i doubt they would do something with it.

We just play wargames like it's nothing but it were men like my grandfather and many others who fought on land and at sea and died there. Maybe respect them for a change instead of looking at them like torpedo food for the most tonnage an honor.
They weren't killing machines they were boys too back then with their feelings and emotions tearing them apart from the inside.
If a bullet or torpedo doesn't kill you then sure will your concsience over time.
A remembrance to the fallen is what i ask in a war game.

Seriously, SH1 was good for it's time, SH2 was for me a waste of money, Ive loaded it a few times and each time wondered why I bought it. It seemed to be brought out in haste and was quickly overtaken by SH3, which I thought was great. It got even better with all the supermods. I still play it in all its forms, more so than SH4, which I find rather boring, with the huge distances involved when nothing happens.
If we have to have another, how about "We Come Unseen" the motto on the blazer badge worn by British submariners of the day. I still wear mine with pride. Replace all American and German boats with the many types used by the Royal Navy in WW2 and recreate the areas in which they operated, Mediterranean, Atlantic, North Sea, Pacific and Far East.

The title Silent Hunter and the Roman Numeral five ( V ) are really getting to be sickening.

We surely want an Atlantic WWII German U Boat game ( or at least most of us do according to the recent posts on this thread ) so why can't we come up with a name that has nothing to do with the Silent Hunter series what so ever. Give it a break and start something NEW with the U Boots.

UBI is not the ONLY publisher out there you know. I bet there are others who would like the chance to show their "Quality" stuff. Why not give it a try.

I may be wrong but I do not think that Neal was just pushing for UBI.

Too much has been emphasized and credited to U-boats. TIME OF GREAT NAVAL BATTLES IN THE ATLANTIC TO BEGIN.


Battlestations Pacific was just released and does an awesome job of simulating multiple units (planes of all sorts, carriers, cruisers, destroyers, battleships, PTs, subs, landing ships, land artillery, land AA), and does an awesome job of simulating huge battles (Island Capture mode) putting up to 4 players vs 4 players controlling multiple units each.

Yet I'm logged in almost every night and frequently, nobody is playing at all.

If you complain about the lack of realism and arcade-style of the game, you're just a hater. It's fun. And on the big maps with lots of units, it's more about the strategy. You can command the whole game from the map if you want. Or, you can force the map off and make everyone play first person - which is really interesting on big maps! It's pretty fun to play "chess" on the map mode, occasionally controlling units first person when you want or need to, or doing first person only and having to run a bomber all the way to an HQ yourself, just to get shot down.

Quit complaining and start playing this game!

Sorry to be negative, but Battle Stations doesn't simulate anything. :-?

Call me a hater, but it imho doesn't have a whole lot to offer/master, which is probably why you never see anyone playing online. Eveyone just blasted through SP and shelved it, which is what I did with Midway (apart from playing through SP, I was too horrified to even complete 1 mission :o ).

Most naval-simmers aren't looking for arcade action. ;)

One of the poster's abover mentioned a surface Naval sim rather than a U-Boat sim and I think he's half-way on to something. Anyone who has played WWII sub sims will acknowledge that most of our fun tends to be related to getting into the heads of our surface targets and destroyer and ASW opponents. Opening up destroyer tactics to submariners would be a logical next step for a product... at least some of you would have to admit to finding the idea of turning the tables appealing.
With Silent Hunter, the engine is pretty well rounded and despite its share of bugs, it's a nice, solid base upon which a surface element could be added over the course of a release schedule. Obviously none of this will come to anything, but the idea is nice. Thanks for the open invite to chime in.

I personally think that SH4 is a little too easy, all you have to do is out dive the destroyers after an attack and change direction a couple of times below thermal layer to trick of the japs and when your men had put fishes back in tubes, resurface and give them more fishes and then redive back to cosy thermal layers to evade the sub hunters.... I been sinked by more planes than destroysers for that matter.. :)

Sometimes, when I got jumped by japs in shallow waters I had a run for my money, but it's still alittle too easy I think... even on the hardest setup...I thing SH4 has too vast distances to travel. It was borring enough to travel the smal distanses in SH3 and now we have the whole passific ocean to cover before I had firied a single fish.... When that mensioned I have gone "fish dry" numerous times without even maked it half way to the designated target and have to go back and reload... Just to cover that distance again...It's fun to be at sea, but a little more action and some smaler distances is preferible? (No, I'm not in the McDonalds generation... :) )

Thats why I'd like to see the next SH in the mediteranian sea, may be even in the black sea, as a german maybe? Up against the tommys and ivan had been great...?
