Sorry if this has been covered
but now int new career- 5 patrols +
i intercepted a convoy, positioned myself and went to the bridge...had a quick scan with the bino's and lo and behold.....many many cows in a huge herd coming my way....smoke billowing and everything.
Why did my watch not give me a heads up?
Is this a bug or is it cos they are all bernards??

Well, from my experience the watch don't see everything. Last time I went on the bridge and spotted a warship ... my watch didn't see it.
I suppose it has to do with the watch experience, but with 5 patrols he must be no nub!
Dismiss this person and ask BdU for a better watch officer!
Edit: It's not a bug, if a watch have more patrols and medals the moral is better ... he will be better in the nearby future!

i'd have to dismaiss the whole watch!!!
i said before that i had a look through the bino's...but the smoke was visible to the naked eye!!!......must be those conscripts they keep sending from the surface fleet:o
hopefuly it will improve....it's ruining the immersion:stare:

It seems the watch cant make the connection between smoke on the horizon and ships :). Though they are quite good at seeing thing is pitch black night when you cant even see them.

this may be the answer my friend!!!
but it wasn't exactly pitch black....either that or my monitor brightness is way too high!!:rotfl:

Correct.
I don't know about the smoke, but I also know that sometimes my watch see things that I cannot see. Also the (simple) watch crew!
@ Von Hally: And now we are waiting for your good results! Gute Jagd!

RAFAEL-
Those masive iron beasts are so close i can smell the thick acrid smoke from their funnels!!!
Many thousands of tons will see the drink!!!
Thanks for the encouragement....though the vision of these monsters are encouragement enough!!
never got so close to a convoy before....decks awash definitely works!!!
only prob is...unlike some with great rigs...i cant play and be online at same time....too demanding on my spec....so no update till tomorrow!!!!:up:

Oh, well OK. :)
I play and use alt+tab playing and writing right here. Now I am 25 meters deep, silent running. Nothing can happen to me.
Be careful, do NOT go too close. The convoy has escorts! And their intention is to sink you with all your brave men. :arrgh!:

Using the GWX 16km mod, I've noticed that on a clear day I can see ships over 12,000 meters or so away. But no matter what weather or how well trained they are, the watch crew can't spot things more than about 8000 meters away in perfect conditions.
Just the way the game is programmed, I suppose.

Be careful..might be a Bernhard in the transfer office..he transfers the worst of the worst to you!

i get this alot with aircraft, my usual notification that they're there is that my time compression suddenly drops and goes orange.
i usually hit f4 at that point ant use Mk1 eyeball cause the watch officer wouldn't see a ship if he was standing in the middle of a fully loaded dock...

These phenomena you refer to are the balances that have to be made in the AI and sensors.
A small tweak one way could result in unrealistic all round blindness whilst a small tweak the other way could result in vampire vision for all.
What must always be taken into consideration is the fact that any alteration to sensors has the same effect for both sides.
Limitations of the game engine unfortunately.

This Happens Too me all the time,Ill go to the navigation map and next thing I know im getting attacked by a convoy when im pursuing it.Its very annoying!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::damn::damn::damn:
Also IMHO, it depends on what kind of fog there is. Just coming from experience, BTW are you running OLC GUI mod?

I am running OLC "Gold" MkII, maybe that's the reason I am better then my watch crew when spotting a ship! :yep:
Is this specialy made for OLC, so that your watch crew with good visibility don't see what I am seeing?

Seems to me that any type of visual handicap that is produced by the game ie, fog, will keep your watch crew "blind" to it regardless of the rest of the actual conditions. So you will see it, but the program is adjusted to "not see it." I love the mod, after getting used to the quirks.

I do use a "stay alert crew fix" mod.
its funny thing with watch crew, sometimes they shout "ship spotted" but i can't see it, and my hydrophones can't detect it after a dive. one time in stormy weather they reported DD when it was passing me at about 200m...
