Lest you think presidential actions mean nothing.

Al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri said an offer the militant group made to the previous U.S. administration of a conditional truce is still on the table for President Barack Obama.

You actually think AQ would honor any agreement?

You do realize that the picture you posted shows Obama bowing to Al Qaeda's #1 enemy, and a close friend of the Bush family, right?

I take no conditional anything from #2. Where is #1 and why is he not offering the 'conditional truce?' BTW, this presidentual action was sheer stupitidy on Obama's part. Stand like a man who runs a powerful country for crying out loud.

Two things:

1. The Al Qaeda leadership doesn't care who our President is. They would have made the same offer had McCain won, and McCain's reaction would have been the same as the reaction Obama will give - completely ignore it.

2. Al Qaeda itself doesn't really do much other than issue statements these days. The actual attacks are carried out by the myriad of groups that are "affiliated with Al Qaeda" or "have links to Al Qaeda" or were simply inspired by Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda is sort of a figurehead for the Islamist terrorist movement. It is a highly influential figurehead, but a figurehead nonetheless.

This 'truce offer' is simply posturing, and both sides know it. Al Qaeda is a lot of awful things, but stupid isn't one of them.

Really, if there was a truce offer AQ would be out of work. What, they all will become peaceful farmers or something? Doubtful.

No, there are plenty of other governments out there that Al Qaeda wants to get rid of.

The conditions on the "truce offer" are that the US completely withdraws from the Middle East and the Muslim world. With the US gone, Al Qaeda, working through its affiliated groups, would try to overthrow every government of a Muslim country and replace them with a radical Islamist government. That would keep them busy for a while. They'd also take out Israel for good measure. But their #1 enemies have always been and always will be the Saudi monarchy.
