View Full Version : How Air Strike works ...and a news!

Hi folks,

I made a test to see how air strike works. I created a little scenario with merchant convoy (8 ships) 150km West from Brest. I put around Brest four bombers and fighters air bases.

7.00am: upon my watches saw ships, I sent the radio message. I remind you the call is good ending when you can see your message sent in the radio log. Otherwise, you can't have air cover.

7.32am: radar warning receiver adviced me radar signals... RAF incoming!

7.47am: Lufthwaffe attacks convoy!

8.30am: an other Lufthwaffe raid!

After 9.00: all quiet....

At 9:36 my sonarman advices me WARSHIPS incoming!

But.. :hmmm: I didn't put any warships in the scenario! At free camera sight I saw this:

german warships! :o

s-boat, DD, DD, DD, s-boat.

So... it seems when the air cover request is accepted.. BdU sends also warships!!

this is pretty new for me..

Ive never thought that there is such thing as navar reinforcements. It seems pretty cool tough i guess it will have rather limited use in the campaning.

It will be quite nice to call few destroyers to draw the attention from a convoy escorts around western approaches :)

Hi, why limited in campaign? There is no reason for that. The only limitation is you need to have at least 3 enemy ships in sight to send the message properly, and to be in the air base range (i.e. within 800km from Brest).

Anyway, those ships didn't engaged the convoy because their route was too much East.. and the convoy almost destroyed by aircraft!

Nice screen the first one, with the stuka, with your permission I will use it as the desktop background

..yes you can do it,

But any else comment? it's an amazing finding! It was assumed the radio message would call only aircraft.. but it's not so correct! we can also have ships incoming...

thus the next question is: may we have also u-boot wolfpacks??

sometimes after you send the radio message, after some hours, a uboat might come and follow the convoy, or even attack with the deckgun.

I don't know if I'm wrong or right with my thoughts:

if you load the single mission "Brake" with empty campaign files, then you are alone in the scenario without enemy. for me this means, that single missions load parts of the campaign files (random and scripted?).

so perhaps the ships you see are part of the Campaign_RND.mis file??

so try your scenario with empty campaign files. what happens then?

Just a thought, maybe I'm totally wrong.

You are right. Indeed, no matter if you load a single mission or a campaign save, the game still loads the campaign layers.
This is precisely the reason why, when loading a single mission, you must wait the same (long) time as when loading a campaign save. The game still loads the campaign files in full.

hi dcb,

yes, but there are some single missions "Bismarck" for example, which seem to work without the campaign files (I installed the Blank_Campaign-Mod from Mikhayl). Using the Blank_Campaign-Mod, these Single Missions load very quickly.

Hi H.sie, this is new for me, I just created a single mission and put it into singlemission folder.

So, SH3 will load part of the campaing too? This can explain why I had a convoy report in Bismarck single mission... it surprised me..

How I can make the scenario without campaign files influence?

Hi Sag,

use the "Blank_Campaign-Mod" or similar from Mikhayl. Then nothing else is loaded except of the Units in the Single Mission.

That is correct http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

The only way naval units will arrive is if they are scripted in.

The blank campaign file (as used by GWX for development and testing work) would prevent this.
