I use PC Tools Anti-spyware with Virus scanner..available from pctools.com. It also come with a registry scanner. I like this better than the glitzy Norton product I had.
Cheers!

After cure; registry connections to operating program files, may be destroyed. Shortcuts not working. This depends on what virus attacks. Without registry back-up,your only choice is reformat/reinstall.
Now I use AVG. on one computer, & Avast on the other. AVG offers a free download working program. Before reformatting I downloaded entire "C"drive to external HD. so I could save that which was left. You may have to reformat from the operating sys.up,wipe entire "C"drive. I had an unbelievable goat.:damn:

I tried AVAST awhile ago and thought it was great..until it started picking off files that were legitimate....an old expression...you get what you pay for....as always...just MHO...:DL

COMODO does the same thing to me. Won't tell me what the infection is, just starts quarantining legit files.
hi,
Avira or AVG are excellent free virus scanners - i put them on friend's pcs when doing repairs for them and i've had no complaints.

I've found malwarebytes to be pretty nifty at finding real good hidden stuff :salute:

This is the best free proggy so far.
The best program bar none is still NOD32 though, but this requires a subscription.

Get's rid of every virus known to man. :yep:
Personally use Avast, and Comodo Firewall Plus when on XP (doesn't work on Win7). Never any infections. :)

Nortons 360.
Simple to use just set and forget, not a resource hogger either.
Free - then go Avira Personal edition. Avoid Comodo's antivirus just a piece of bugware, there firewall is okay but not the antivirus IMO.

i use AVG cuz it's free and it works
Free scanners work to a certain point.
You should never wonder why you got a vrius if you use free software,it does only part of the job.
I used both AVG and Avast, got two trojans that they didnt even see...and they both make mistakes by identifying applications as malware or other ware.According to Avast GTA4 has a worm,crazy...
I introduced the trojan on my laptop, which has ESET smart security..immediate recognition!
So i use ESET now, much lighter on the processes, very much running without you even knowing it.
A good scanner should update at least 4 times a day,the free ones dont even update twice a day..
