How deep have you guys ever taken your sub in SH4?? I was just down at 400ft in a Sargo class boat to avoid a couple of sub chasers. They raced over to my position but then turned and headed off the other way, as if trying to attack me was not worth the effort. haha :)

But, the gross dial only goes upto 450ft, has anyone ever taken their boat past this depth and actually survived?? I'm curious to hear of some tales of someone having to go real deep getting the snot DC'd out of them by the japs ;)

Speaking of which, like in SH3, do the Japanese destroyers get better as the war goes on yeah?

Took my Type XVIII below a thousand once, those late war American escorst are evil :ping:. Deepest I've gone in US subs is around 450. Crazy dark down there, it's scary once you get in the mood...

Depends on the mod...With TMO, 600ft for a Gato is far as I'll go. Course you can go much deeper, you just won't come back up.

Oh, several thousands of feet, all the way to the bottom.

Problem is the boat never returned to the surface. :ping:

I've been hit at 600 ft, but really only happens when sea's are dead calm.
Using TMO..

donut according to ducimus DC will go a couple thousand feet deep.

I've been to 700+ in a Gato once and came up with no damage.
hit the "set dive planes to deep dive" button by mistake while in 32X TC.
just after I installed TMO.

How have you been able to go that deep when the dial only goes to 450ft,?? Or do you just set the planes to deep dive and the boat will go down deeper?

1208ft in a Balao. No damage when resurface.

depends on your mods... in TMO shift D will take you down till you press a to level off.

Anybody know what determines how deep you can go? Is your crush depth set randomly each patrol, or is it calculated constantly, or does it stay the same throughout the career, etc? Once, the instant I went below the red line on my gauge the rivets started poppin' but others I go way below wartime records without any damage at all.

It would be interesting if Ducimus could code each historical boat to their estimated crush depths :hmmm: Barb was a thin skin Gato but went below 700, and IIRC a Gato class returned from 900 and have no damage once. Anybody know if build quality was really that varied between boats?'

EDIT: That Porpoise was USS Chopper, a Balao - went below 1000 during a miscommunication accident.

I still seem to remember another story about a Gato however, that had a lot of trouble with her trim tanks while under attack and was pointing almost 90 degrees up before they got her under control. That's the one I thought went over 900...

how do you go deeper then your gauge? Or maybe you can't with stock?

That's easy - just hit the 'D' for dive key. Which raises another question: if you're deeper than the guage, how do you know how deep you are?

ok.. then how do you stop the dive to level out the planes and maintain the depth once you've reached as far as you want to go?

press A...

I play TMO, not sure if's it's the correct key for stock, but A levels you off.

To read depth, there is a little digital number readout botton right hand corner, can't mission, just the number no dial.
