Ahoy everyone.
I have just played my first patrol in SH3 with GWX3 gold mod and...
after sinking few merchants, and 1 southampton class cruiser(in dover) i was sure to get lot of renown but... all ships was counted as Axis so i've got -653 renown and no medals(20510 BRT sunk) WTF?? It is possible that cruiser docking in Dover in 1939(exatct date 05.09.1939 3:41am) was Axis(no flag on mast)??

I confes that once i've shoot some shells from deck canon in to one german merchant but only one hit without any serious damage.
GWX is great, new ships, new interface with great "upgrades" but.....

I'm playing with 72% ralism without dumb torpedos(if with, then 90% not fire) :(
with manual targeting and WO help on.

P.S sorry for my bad english

Welcome aboard, Zajc3w:woot:
A bug in SH3 is the awarding of renown on the first patrol. It is hard coded, and can't be changed.
The recommendation is to go on a short shakedown patrol after establishing a new career, and then start a long patrol.
This is covered in the GWX manual, which is the best game manual ever written.
I suggest you read it.:know:

Welcome Aboard Herr Kaluen!! :arrgh!:

Usually this bug is only if you purchases any upgrades and or crew for you boat.

If you just leave base and hunt there will be no problems.

NOT a GWX issue.

This isn't the normal renown bug.:-? Upgrading equipment & crew usually results in no renown being awarded.

In this instance, renown was awarded but it was all negative. So either Neutral or Axis ships were sunk during the patrol. It's possible (unlikely) that the game never updated the vessel status following the end of the shakedown cruise and the start of the war. Although, I have never heard of this happening before.

Welcome to Subsim Zajc3w  You're in the right place for an answer.

Thanks for Your answers. I'm playing SH 1.4b a while(one career to the end of war, 5 or 6 careers not finished) without any mods, and i've never had this problem before instalation of GWX. That's why i though that's GWX bug.

I'm gonna start new career.

Danlisa - harbours on navigation map was all green all the time during that patrol. Maybe that is the answer??. I've also don't receive radio message with order to engage Brits

I remember that someone (iirc of the GWX crew) once posted (a long time ago) that units that have started their life before an alliance change occurs, they themselves do not have their alliance status changed until they finnish it. So it could be that these particular units were spawned before september 1st (or whenever it happends), and are still neutral until they would have reached the final waypoint.

It sounds like you started at the very beginning, which is August 1, 1939; a month before the war starts. This was done in GWX3 to allow you to be one of the boats that was on station when the war started on September 1. Unfortunately the game itself doesn't allow for any date other than the first of the month, so you need to make a short 'shakedown' cruise and use SH3 Commander to set a next-patrol start date that lets you be at your assigned grid before the war starts.

Welcome aboard Zajc3w http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif

If the port was green then it's a neutral port.

Set SH3 commander to 20 days in port then set out on a shakedown patrol.

On 4th August you'll receive a radio message recalling you.

Teleport back to your home base and your next patrol will start 24th August, giving sufficient time to transit to your patrol area prior to the commencement of hostilities....just like in RL. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Give a screenshot of green Dover on the map and mouse cursor on the clock to show the date, then maybe I will start to believe it.

That was my guess too.

My guess is you started the shooting war a month early based on the info you've given. If it was your first patrol in a career starting in 1939 without using SH3Commander then your patrol would have started on 1 August 1939 not 1 September 1939. Therefore your actual date of the kill would most likely have been 05/08/1939 at a time when Britain and Germany are still not at war. Any kills made against "neutral" shipping result in negative renown.

You cannot attack British shipping unless it's harbours are red.

You can either spend some time doing a shake down cruise, return to base and start your next patrol early enough to get on station before the shooting war starts, or use SH3Commander to select the start month of your career before starting the game.

Not sure if anyone ever discussed the merits of a shakedown cruise and those who are into immersion would really appreciate the merits of practicing drills, timing dives and ascent, running and diving at various speeds and clocking the time to specific depths, timing a green crew's response and the limits of the technology on a '39 era boat. Can be fun and good learning experience. There are target boats to hone skills close to your base and usually within the first grid you are sent to. After a bit of R&R you should be ready and honed as Bdu will push you into a war patrol and will expect you to perform and survive.
