I'm going to be fitting a new twin fan cooler to my Nvidia 8800GTX Gfx card to aid the cooling situation:yeah:
Problem is there is a heatsink on the motherboard that might get in the way,now I'm assuming that the heatsink is for the onboard Gfx chip,So I was wondering since I won't be using the onboard Gfx,is it safe to remove the Heatsink:hmmm::06: Or am I going to have to find and purchase a low profile heatsink:06: Any help from members, suggestions or ideas greatly appreciated:salute:

Its more likely that it's the chipset heatsink, It would be unwise to remove that. If you can find some drawings of the motherboard online it may help. I usually build my own computers so I refer to the motherboard handbook for such info. I'd certainly want to be 100% certain before I removed anything if I were you.
If you moved ths thread to the hardware, software forum, you may get more responces to help.

Im sorry, I wasn't aware of the tech forums:oops: If the mods would like to move the thread I would be grateful:salute:
And FordPrefect,The MB is an ASRock K10N78, I think you might be right,in which case I've got to find a low profile HS that fits, why anyone would stick a large Heatsink so close to a PC-IE slot is beyond me:nope: Any advice?:06: Its one of these http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K10N78

If you got the balls. Carefully remove and VERY CAREFULLY grind the heatsink to get clearance.
Good Luck.

Could you change to a smaller heat sink...:hmmm:

Or replace the heatsink with a lower profile chipset fan. :hmmm:

That introduces the nasty possibility of fan failiure leading to the chipset temp rocketing, which isn't good at all. I had it happen to my first pc, since then I've stuck with heat sinks instead. Once my stuff arrives back from Norway soon I'll be able to rebuild my old PC, thats got no cooling issues ever since it was rigged up to a vapo chill unit. the CPU usually ran about -50C :D

Thats what I would love, watercooling:yeah: I think I've found a heatsink that will fit and is only 12mm high, problem is it has no mounting lugs,so would have to attach it using 3M thermal tape:hmmm: Just how good is that stuff? I've never used it before so I'm not to sure:06:

I've tried watercooling and it's not all it's cracked up to be to be honest, and there's always the nasty risk of a water leak frying everything. Vapochill is far far better by comparison.

Liquid cooling "which I have" uses a non-conductive liquid not, Water. Self installed I haven't had a problem.
Anything installed Halfassed can be a nightmare includeing a simple fan.

Is there any all-in-one Watercooling kits out there FIREWALL:06: at some time in the future it is something I'd like to seriously think about:03:
And Ford Prefect, what is Vapochill:hmmm: Sorry for the dummy questions but I've just got a new system worth doing things to so I'm looking around at different stuff:yeah::yeah:
All my previous systems were made up of other peoples cast off equipment,But now I'm all ears for any advice:salute:

No small wonder why. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

@ Nikbear I use Coolermaster. Give me a few and I will post links.
Or you can GOOGLE " Liquid Cooling for PC "
So basically a refrigerator inside your case.
For that price I'd put it in a regular fridge with space left for plenty of sixpacks. Talk about 'cool running'!

A little off topic but though you guys would get a kick out of it.
I cleaned my CPU heatsink the other day it had a lot of dust and smoke tar on it.
I carefully removed it and put it in the dishwasher ! :rotfl:
Came out clean as new

Vapochill is a company that make refridgeration cooling for computers, they do both stand alone units that can be hitches up to near any pc or towers to use. I've got the stand alone unit, lightspeed I think they called it. I've not seen it since september 2005 when I moved to norway, me and my belongings haven't managed to coincide in the same place at the same time since! The pc I had the vapochill unit on was over clocked by insane amounts and remained stable because it still ran at 40 degrees below freezing! For gaming it was well worth the money.

Asetek is the company that made Vapochill as well as liquid cooling systems.
They are no longer in business. So no replacement parts for a $800.00 + system.

Bad choice with whats available out there today.
