I'm watching some program, "Jacked", the police have some cars wired with cameras and remotes. They leave them in areas of town where car theft is a chronic problem then stake out the area. They video people as they scope out the car, and when some jokers decide the car is theirs, they follow them a short distance. The car has a camera inside as well, so you can watch the idiots freaking out when the engine shuts down and the doors lock themselves. :haha: Car thieves apprehended.
Awesome.

There was also a show on TruTV (formerly Court TV) called Bait Car. It is the same premise. I loved seeing those idiots react to that stuff. :yeah:
I forget the precise show, but there was one setup with a lorry left with its rear doors open and boxes inside. Some joker climbed up to nick one of the boxes, then two guys slammed the doors shut and pulled down the sides to reveal the joker trapped in like a zoo enclosure with bars. The lorry then drove around central London while a loudspeaker proclaimed things like "See the common thief in its natural habitat!"
If I find a clip on the tube I'll link it. :shucks:

Could that not be classed as entrapment. I'm sure a smart bloodsucker oops, I meant lawyer would argue that.

No entrapment would be if they had no choice but to do the deed or if there was an obvious invitation to do the crime.
In England it is only entrapment if the police provide "extraordinary
opportunity" to commit crime.
A car parked in a road is an opportunity for crime, but not entrapment.
A car parked in a road with the keys left in the door is an extraordinary
opportunity for crime, and thus entrapment.

Yeah, I'm sure some will call it entrapment. :) I would not agree. A decoy car or a lorry with the doors open, not anyone's business but the owner's. If that's entrapment, life is one big entrapment.

Lol, I don't agree with that either, maybe a car parked in a road with the keys left in the door and a sign reading "Steal me!!", ok. :D

No, it is not entrapment. Liken this to an undercover woman officer in a particular part of the neighborhood that is known for prostitution. The woman officer dresses the part and walks the walk. All the John has to do is offer up some sort of compensation for sex. Yet, the woman officer has not said anything as far as offer of sex for cash. That has to left up to the John. Same with the car. It sits in the known part of the neighborhood looking like a easy target. It walks the walk. It says nothing. Car jacker breaks in and takes the car. The car jacker initiated the theft.

Bloody good idea. There should be more of it. I agree with Neal. Unless you suggest to someone "Hey see that car over there? Go steal it" it shouldn't be entrapment.
If you left my keys in the door or ignition an some basum stole it, it would still be theft.

Entrapment, according to US law, does NOT apply here. Specifically: However, there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime.Leaving an unlocked car somewhere does not provoke a person to take it - it merely provides what that person sees as an easy opportunity.
By posters' earlier logic, what if a cop hopped out of a squad car to chase a perp, and left the door open and the keys in the ignition? Would it be entrapment for someone to steal the squad? Of course not.

They started doing these cars in a the late 90s I belive the shows just put it on tv that is all they did not come up with the idea. You can not be entrapped when you are trying to steal a car, you are trying to seatl a car you just stole one that you cant steal:haha:. It is just like undercover drug buys a sales it is legit so long as they dont entrap and willingly comitting crime is not entrapment.
I saw on the Bait Car show a few times people taking the keys and calling the police to report an unattended (unaware it was a bait car) car!:haha: They set these cars up in high auto theft areas. I hate M..... F.....s that steal.Caught a guy once trying to jimmy my car had my buddy cover me I while snuck up and punched the guy in the back of the head so hard his face smacked the side window and he dropped out cold:rotfl: took his jimmy bar and threw in a rentention pond and left his dazed ass sitting in the parking lot some store security guy came up and told us to leave and that he would "take care" of our friend. I wonder what ever happended to the punk his face was bleeding pretty bad I must have broken his nose.:hmmm:

No, entrapment as a concept doesn't exist in UK law. The police can set up a sting and if you fall for it, you are arrested.
Your only defence would be if the individual was induced or persuaded by a Police Officer to commit the offence.

It certainly does*. Some local bobbies fell foul of it in York about four
(or five?) years ago when they tried to get convictions of drug dealing
by offering drug users unusually large amounts of money to buy illegal
substances.
The court ruled that in the normal course of events the accused would
have not been offered such high prices and therefore would not have
been tempted to deal drugs.
It made the papers because several officers where suspended and
there was an PCC case opened. No idea how it ended up.
*It may not exist in the code, but it is certainly exercised by the courts
when the integrity of the legal process looks under threat.

They should use a Ford Pinto, with locking doors, then hit it from behind.

Hence the defence when "inducement or persuasion" is used.

I was watching The smoking gun presents Worlds Dumbest Drivers, and two of them were about these bait cars.
One is where these two guys get in, the cops pull up behind them, and then the driver starts crying like a little girl becuase he's going to jail.
The other one was about a 65 year old grandma who stole a bait car, drives off and then the police catch up. She starts praying to jesus that they'll let her go.

I did not think of that I wonder if he had much money:hmmm:.I dont know the store sec. guy said that the guy was part of a gang and that they where very likely to have seen what I did and not been to happy about it he said to leave because theyd show up to get revenge before any cops where around. So my friend and I left though my buddy is 6 foot 4 and can bench 400 pounds he was rough and ready I took the guess that they might have guns so I passed.

How ironic! Someone stole my raingear bag off my motorcycle today while I was in class. :O: Imagine, the nerve it takes to walk over some someone's motorcycle in broad daylight and start removing objects. The freak probably threw the bag and raingear away when he discovered what he stole.
Well, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for that bag, it has a couple modifications that will stand out. If I see someone carrying it, I'm not even going to say howdy-do...

Would have been a bad idea, no matter how fair it seems after him trying to steal your car, Would put you in a difficult legal position, possibly. Or in short, two wrongs dont make a right. That being said, the last person who tried to mug me lost his wallet:)
