I ran a mission in SHIII and rand into an underwater net near a harbor. I could not see the floats on the surface but the net was there. I ended up using the periscope raised just enought to be able to see the net but not enought to reach the surface. What is the best way to deal with nets and could a real periscope be used to see underwater? I suspect not. Thanks! Joe S

No...a real periscope would eventually go dark the deeper you go, and real water isn't as transparent as what we have in the game. As for nets, avoid them since you can't defeat them.

 Actually, George Grider, in War Fish, page 137, Little, Brown & Company Ltd., Third Printing, talked about seeing through the periscope while still under water:

As the boat neared periscope depth, I raised the scope, put my eye to it, and began to look at the dimly lighted water while the tip of the periscope was still about ten feet under. It is a rare thing to see marine life through a periscope....

I've slipped over them a couple of times, no contact, surfaced at night. Always going dead slow. I suppose in theory you could charge over at any speed - clearance is clearance - but....

But the little dangling sonar bollocks things looked awfully close to emasculation. Or is it emancipation?

Playing TMO and RSRD in a Balao if that makes any difference.

Not sure if you're talking about friendly or enemy sub nets. For the German ports there is a pull-down mod which shows the location of sub nets and minefields. This is very handy particularly with the narrow approaches to the Norwegian port (I was killed a few times before I knew what was causing it LOL).

Enemy sub nets is a different matter obviously and you take your chances when approaching enemy held waters.

There's tides in SH4 ?

So a historical tidal almanac is needed ?

Or is there one in the game already and I never noticed ?
