If you're running vista and have installed to program files (bad idea) then you'll either have to change the permissions on the SHIII folder or run the game as admin to have the screen shots save. I had this problem when I first tried taking some shots, I was using the right commands but the shots didn't save as the game didn't have permission to alter the contents of its own folder! :nope:

Vista at times seriously dampens my battery! :damn:

hmmmmm, check the installation directory isn't protected, it may be the game doesn't have permission to save the files to there. XP may be doing a vista to you....

:hmmm: If you do get the .tga files you need some picture viewer to open them, as IrfanWiew.
At least Vista does not recognise .tgaīs, I donīt remember if XP did, Iīm getting old and only remeber what I use at the moment:)

I've no idea what might be causing the problems you're having, but (unless you're determined to find the cure) I can recommend finding and downloading Rapidshot v1.7. It's a standalone program that runs in the background and allows you to take screenshots as .jpg or .bmp files using whichever key combination you set it to. It can be used in any application you might be running, such as SH3 or FSX etc. I've been using it since my flightsim days on FS9 and it has worked flawlessly in all the games I've run such as Morrowind, Warcraft, Warhammer etc etc.

Using PrtScr is correct.
TGA format is correct.

The screen shot PATH is not correct! It doesn't even exist. Where do you want the screens to go?

For a folder in My Documents, it should read:
screenshotPath=C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\SH3 Screens <- Make a folder of your own in My Docs and then copy the folder location from the address bar in Explorer.

For a folder in Program Files, it should read:
screenshotPath=C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunter3 <- Or wherever you have the game installed.

Don't copy and past my PATHS, they need to be specific to your system. FYI folder paths use \ and not /.;)

I have a different problem with the screenshots in SH3. When I take one, the game crashes to desktop. However, the screenshot is taken correctly. Fraps causes the exact same problem no matter which key I use. Rapidshot fixed that for the moment so thanks KeybdFlyer for the tip.

Maybe you have now (at the moment) a lot of images, but don't know where they are? Try to search (if SH3 has been installed on harddisk C), the search option? Search for bmp or try another search for tga.

Furthermore, is there a folder that is 'HIDDEN' on your computer? And full with SH3 images.

Repost your new/edited d3d9.cfg file for me to see.

Also, confirm that the following files are all inside your main SH3 Program folder; d3d9.cfg, d3d9.dll, SHIII.sdb, SP2 Rez fix uninstall.bat,SP2 Rez fix.bat and that you have run the SP2 Rez Fix.bat file.

That above is your screenshot path. IT IS STILL WRONG!

You have a fullstop (.) after the = Remove that!
You have a space in the word Hunter. Remove that.
Also I'm pretty sure the correct folder name is SilentHunterIII (not using 3). That is unless you changed it.

Slow down a little and recheck it. ;)

Do you know how to screengrab a view in Windows Explorer? Do you have a image suite? For my sanity (and yours), I want to check the path where you have installed SH3.

Navigate to your SH3 Program Folder, so you can see the Folders called Data, MODS, Documentation etc etc. Now press PrtScr. Now open an image suite, create a new image/canvas and then choose paste. This will add the screengrab you have taken into an image which you can post here. I need to check that Path. If you can't do that, put it into a Word Doc, Excel Doc or anything that can take the image.

Also try to include in the screengrab the file listing that shows the Res Fix files in the main SH3 Program folder (use the List view to do this).

I'm sure there is a problem with your setup of the Rez Fix. When you are playing SH3, does it stutter/micro freeze when you press ScrPrt? If it does not, it's not working.

I don't have SH3 installed on this PC but open the Program Folder and copy EXACTLY what it shows in the address bar. Just like below:

:) Hi Danlisa :)
Thanks for the help .
Here ' s what I did :

I uninstalled the game , and the res fix using uninstall file .
I intalled the game from the beginning , and also installed the res fix .
And NOTHING HAPPENED :doh::o:88):dead:
When I use the " Printscreen " button , the game freeze for a moment like you described in the last post , so it seems right that way .
But none TGA files in the SHIII main directory . It flashed a moment too when I used the "Printscreen " button , so I think either is the res fix corrupt , or maybe something wrong with where the TGAs goes to (folder )
but I find nothing . The game work perfectly with the res fix , but it don't
take screenshots .

So Danlisa at last :

Plese explain it easy to me what you mean in the post :)
Thank you for helping me :salute::salute:

Good. Did you use the default install location? C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII
Also, did you put all the res fiz files in the SilentHunterIII Folder? Overwriting if needed.

Good. The Screen Shot function is working. It sounds like the location is wrong.

Try this:

Change your Screenshot Path in the d3d9.cfg to read this (Copy & Paste if you want):

screenshotPath=C:\

This will put any/all screens directly to the root of your hard drive. So to find them you only need to navigate to My Computer > C:

I don't understand . In "read me" it says you can copy this into the main directory Sh3 :o Shall I use the winzap and unzip the res fix into sh3 directory ?

Thanks for helping me out :)

Ahhhh.....:haha:

When you download the Rez Fix, it will be in an archive RAR or 7z.

You need to extract it. After you have extracted it, you need to copy all the FILES (not folders) into the main SH3 Program folder, which is usually C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII

The files to be copied are:
d3d9.cfg
d3d9.dll
SHIII.sdb
SP2 Rez fix uninstall.bat
SP2 Rez fix.bat

When they are in there, run this file:

SP2 Rez fix.bat

A black DOS CMD box should pop up and disappear.

Then open the d3d9.cfg with notepad and edit it with your Resoultion dimensions and (as I said above) with the screenshot path of c:. Now save it.

Load the game and try again.

Download this Video - http://www.filefront.com/14106915/This-is-all-you-have-to-do.mpg/

Sorry for the size but it's a full desktop capture (1920 x 1080). Use VLC Media Player to play it.

Honestly, if you follow the video completely and you still have trouble, there is a conflict on your system, the Res Fix files are OK.

:) Hi danlisa :)
Thanks for helping me :woot:
It was not easy to watch the video , but ok.

Allright this is what I done :

* I searched in the forum and found a new complete download ( res Fix ).
* I Download it to the directory "Ubisoft" , and extracted it there .
* When it was extracted there -
I copyed those files into SH3 directory .
* And wrote in the "Path " =C:\ , and set my res to 1280x1024 .
NOTHING :o
After that I searched high and low in the forum , and found a post ,
where I read that you put the d3d9.dll file into a notepad , so I did that ,
but, NOTHING there either .
And after that I had enough so uninstalled the whole Res Fix . And tested the game with out the res fix using the "Ctrl+F11 " button .
It was PERFECT :woot::yawn:
I got these screenshots , but the question is this ; why did not res fix worked :o
It must be something wrong with those files .
when it worked perfectly without those files , it isn't nothing wrong with the pc system ???
