View Full Version : BTW About those Von Dos ships...

I merged the Von Dos shipyard or some of it with the WBs mod in the download section.

I recently posted sinking the SS Normadie. Well on the next patrol (summer of 43) in almost the same spot and on the same heading the USS Westpoint. Which of course I sunk her. And then a few days later in the same area the Normandie again. Not that I mind having over 100k tons with 2 sinkings but my question is are these ships just spawning where I am or am I just extremely lucky? :hmmm:

I sank the Titanic in an earlier patrol but that was very far from my current hunting location. All these ships were unescorted. The West Point actually had a small merchant trailing her. My 2nd question is arent these ships now troop ships? Shouldnt they be protected? The scripted stuff I merged with the mission editor, is it based on historical accuracy or possible accuracy? Or do these huge ships just randomly take the place of others?

Anyone know? :know:

IIRC they were scripted without using the random/percentage spawning factors facility in the mission editor.

It's a fair possibility you've found the golden/sweet spot.

Hmmm..thanks Jim.

Eventhough I bitch like a Mo Fo in regards to the bathtubs with masts Team GWX puts into the convoys. I still dont like when my tonnage goes ridiculous! :salute:

So if it is the sweet spot I guess I'll just shoot the ones I havent already and move on.

My god it is nice tho.. that Normadie fills up the scope view something fierce! :arrgh!:

VonDos' ships are scripted but some of them may turn up in convoys, large or small. Nothing to do with my mod, it's the way VonDos designs them! It looks like you've found a sweet spot but it probably won't last long.

The liners used to rely on speed for protection rather than sitting in slow but protected convoys. If you have full realism on then targeting even a large ship moving at nearly 20 knots is difficult, and trying to manoeuvre in front of the ship for a shot is almost impossible.

LMAO...

Unfortunately I failed every year of math in high school...so manual targeting is out for me... :nope:

Its funny but the SS Normandie and USS West point are never exceeding 10 knots where as the Titanic was flying at 18. :hmmm:

It all depends on where you find them... There are a few random speed changes to fox the manual targetting guys and they will slow down when coming close to their ports.

I'm away from modding at the moment but will be able to revisit the mod in October based on your feedback.

Thanks WB. Is there anyway to cut down on their spawn frequency? :hmmm:

As much as I love setting record tonnage scores....

Anyways I look foward to enjoying your future work possibly this fall.
