117,791 tons in one patrol, my best yet. Of course I didn't do it like most of you do, by cruising & scouting lol
I hit Naha & then Itoman harbors & then went down to the base by rabaul to resupply; then after dodging Japanese bombing raids I went into Truk lagoon & sunk a Fuso & a Yamato at anchor.
Boring by some standards but I enjoy sneaking into harbors....especially Truk.
Mods: RFB, RSRDC & Real U.S. Medals <-- if any of you modders read this; thanks for all your work on these.
this one is most funny, though it's cheat ridden so....
slapped on a S-18 sub, went from minilia, went towards naval arsnel in hiroshima, blew up everything in my way using deck gun (100m deck gun cheat btw), including 2 planes, went back out to sea, went to tokyo, blew everything in that harbor to bits with deckgun (again, with the 100m), stayed out of tokyo bay for a week, sunk anything i saw, thinking about going back to sabuya, found jap task force with 2 cariers, an ise, etc, sunk with deck gun, went back to sabuya.
total tonnage? approx 300,000
then again, i was using cheats. not one torp fired :p
story's moral? best meat is in hiroshima harbor, but watch the anti sub nets.

Who me? Mine are legit as far as no sub-nuclear torps or anything. I DID sink them all in harbors though, none were moving...as I said in the op; I snuck into the harbors mentioned, went & reloaded torps & went into Truk & sunk the BB's also at anchor.
I like sneaking into harbors & shooting ducks in a barrel.

This post just shows what a great game this is. Play for realism challenge, or play for kicks. Just play and pray for better offerings.

What were you using to sneak into the harbors?

Fine, next time I'm using a kayak to sink the Yamato.

The only harbor I've never been able to penetrate has been Rabaul. I die every single time....one day....one day.

Rabaul isnt that hard... it only has 2 to 3 distroyers patroling.:yep:

Has been for me; I've tried everything I can think of that usually works & they always seem to find me.

Yea, you can sneak into Truk and always find a Fuso and Yamato and get 100K tons, then sink a few merchants in the shallows with the deckgun. I seldom do it, but one time is always good for the points.

One time is all you can do it as far as I have seen. You can go back there but you won't find the big BB's just sitting there like lambs to the slaughter. However there are as you say a few merchies putting about in the shallows on the western end.
I just did a run up into the northern sea of japan & got my butt sunk in 170 feet of water by an armed merchant. Had several ships to my credit & had run out of every bit of ammo....including my AA guns & had resorted to ramming four sampans that I came upon (sunk 'em all too lol) When I decided to go back to port; thought I had enough distance between myself & the radar contact & he got me with the first shot! :wah:

hmm...would a mark 27 help at all?

might, what have you been during these raids...
How many torpedo does it take to sink a yamato? Took me like 10 or 11 all hit at the center at about 20ft depth.

Takes about six to eight if you hit the ship along one side, spread out across her compartments. I like to rake her with a fairly evenly spaced bow to stern spread @ minimum depth to try & capsize her. The Yamato crew is really good at damage control & counter flooding though so sometimes it takes more & of course you have to allow for duds if you have them enabled like I do.
If you concentrate the torps in the same spot over & over it won't do as much damage & will enable the ship to absorb many more hits than it otherwise would.

If Im reading this right the 'targets' were sitting still. Makes it pretty easy to solve :haha:

As someone else said, if you aim for the same spot you don't increase the damage. Spread them all out. I can't emphasize this enough.
