Let some light in here and let's get some names. I hate tax evasion like this and want to see who speaks with forked tongue. I wonder how many are in office?

The only thing which concerns me here is the US using its power to invade another country thru intimidation and coersion. Are not the Swiss entitled to regulate their banks without outside interference?

They are, and they have been a haven for criminal money laundering for many years, including Nazi profits. Don't think any light will shine until the rats have left, or too many politicians from everywhere will stop any real action to protect their friends or themselves. Guess that shows how much respect I have for pols in general. :D It just always seems they've sold their souls and have had some criminal dealings to reach office. All of them!

yes they are... unless their banks are masking illegal activities be it knowingly or unknowingly.

i think the request the United States is making is a legitimate one... "Criminals within our borders are using banks within your borders to break the law... we want your help identifying them."

i dont think there is anything wrong with that.

if they say "Hi American government - piss off." thats their business.

IMHO more power to the swiss... America has the most oppressive democracy in the world if you ask me... piss on them.

It isn't illegal activity inside of Swiss borders, or under Swiss law, a soveriegn nation, so why should the US care. Tell the US to piss-off.

first... the US is exactly who i am telling to piss off.

second... these are American Citizens - In America - breaking American Laws - with American currency - in SWISS banks. :hmmm:

you must admit it is an interesting case.

if i choose to launder money into various channels to evade paying my taxes and all of my money ends up in swiss accounts... the government would want to prosecute me for such activity... yet, the swiss are holding all the evidence. :hmmm:

look at it this way...

lets say im your next door neighbor, i come over to your house one day while you are gone and i rob you.

i take the things i stole from you and i go to Mexico, and put your belongings in a storage building - the storage building is in my name... and i pay the storage bill every month.

the only evidence you have is that i have all your belongings in a storage building in mexico with my name attached to it.

wouldnt you want mexico to hand over the payment records that say im paying to store all your stolen property in that building in mexico???

i'll bet you would.

but what if they didnt?

Open a Swiss account. Use gold though, the dollar is nothing more than a IOU. Ya don't need a lot of money.

Tax evasion is illegal. What the Swiss do isn't. Their laws say as much.

The US sould not pressure them to reveal accounts.

but the US can ask

and i maintain that the Swiss have the right to say "no".

i still think that tax evasion is wrong. no matter how bad i hate paying taxes.

there has to be some sort of international cooperation to prevent crimes committed in one part of the world from going unpunished in another.

Are you willing to make Sharia law your law? If you pick and choose there is no law. Its called political expedience.

No. im not prepared to do that... and its not even remotely what im suggesting.

but if a citizen of some foreign nation extorts millions of elderly peoples retirement funds and funnels those funds into the bank accounts of my nation to keep the cash illegally for himself... i think that my nation should make whatever evidence they have available to the authorities of the foreign nation.

i dont agree with the US trying to strong arm anyone... but i do think that they have the right to ask the swiss to make evidence available so that criminals can be prosecuted.

let me ask you this.

if a shifty eyed con man extorts millions of dollars from retirees and widows and claims those funds were lost in the stock market... when in fact he has rat holed the money into foreign banks so that he can keep the funds for himself...

what would you do Castlebravo?

just say f*ck it and look the other way?

when you pick and choose there is no law

when you refuse to enforce the law - there is no law
