View Full Version : I hate to say it, MS's Bing is like what Google used to be...

Bing just pulls up what you want. Google gets you everything but what you want, unless you dig 3 or 4 pages down. This is what happens when $$$'s affect search results.

An example is that Subsim could pay Google to go to the top of the search list on any search involving subs, regardless how irrelevant. This is what is infecting Google search results in the last couple years.

Anyway, Google is not as useful as it once was. Bing however is exactly like what Google was in its infancy, strong accurate results on the subjects you want, and no corruption.

This bring me to my point.... What the hell happened to MS lately? Between this and Windows 7, it's like this company has reorganized and redone itself from the inside out. Now might be a good time to buy stock.

Just my two cents.

Please provide sources on your information that google is letting you pay to be put higher on a search list instead of making blanket statements like some sort of psycho conspiracy theorist.

Also, I've never had to dig for what I want with google, What I want is 99% of the time in the first few listings.

I'd trust Google more than MS if my main concern was $$ affecting my search results.

$$$ dose effect your results with google someone pays them to have ads come on now MS and Google are both companies they both have the end goal to make a profit.

Bing is interesting something that i do like if you search for viedos they list much like other sites but if you hover over the thumbnail it plays it right then giving you a preview kind nice lets you know if you want to click to see in more deatail or not. And Bing does seem to do a preety good job not hitting on a bunch of crap.I know that is what the aids on tv emply but Bing does seem to do what it claims.

Of course people pay to have higher results. But it's quite clear which ones they are, they show up in clearly marked "Sponsored Links" sections usually at the very top and to the right.

But yes, I like Bing as well.

-SMS has woken up that selling crap that doesn't work won't keep them going. I think they are also a bit wary of Google's move into the OS space:

I admit to being a fan of Bing as well. It's a huge improvement on MSN search, but then it could only have gotten better. ;)

My sentiments entirely.....but I'll still use Google as well.

I haven't really used Google search for years and used yahoo or bing (formerly live). Google is like my 4th or 5th choice in searching the web, I only use it if all my other favorite search machines don't come up with reasonalbe results which is rare.
But I don't think google search is worse than bing, I just don't trust google. Other companies might save your data in a similar scale but they don't brag about it like google does (What you don't know won't hurt you...)

I have used Bing since it came out. I like it and it is my main page. I particularly like the pictures they show everyday. But that is personal taste. I do use both Bing and Google because I do get different results. I can search with Bing and then in the upper corner of the browser is the auto-filled Google search spy glass. I click that for the google search. I get the best of both I suppose. I will stick with Bing because it works just fine and like I said the sign in pictures are always cool, interesting(clickable for what it is) and different everyday. Google is just a box to fill in on a white background.

Just yesterday I saw that Google was launching a new OS to compete directly with M$. Where that goes has yet to be seen.

Time for a test to see which is better, Bing or Google.

Keyword: tits

Bing: 2. pic had bare tits
Google: 3. pic had bare tits

Keyword: boobs

Bing: 13. pic had bare boobs
Google: 4. pic had bare boobs

Keyword: boobies

Bing: 87. pic had bare boobies
Google: 4. pic had bare boobies

Keyword: jugs

Bing: After 500 pics, none
Google: 3. pic had bare titties

After my highly scientific test, I think I'll stick to google. :know:

Porn is not really a very good example you will find a lot of that on any search engine. Also your search can be happered by filters dont forget about those. I do kind of like the home page picture thing on bing as AVGWarhawk was talking about.

With filters off both searching boobs got 36 million image results on bing and they are pretty good for the first several pages.

Google gave me 5 million and they where not anywhere near as good and some down right lame.

Result if you are a teenage boy you will require more kleenax using Bing over Google.:rotfl:

In a more mature search of Fokker D.VII I got 113,000 results on google for web pages and with Bing slihgtly more 131,000 including a very neat page for some company that sells kit plans for WWI planes this was the 4th item on Bing I did not see it with google after looking through 5 pages.

take a look kind of neat: http://www.airdromeairplanes.com/FokkerD-VII%7B80scale%7D.html

bottom line to me if you are looking for something it does not hurt to try more than one search engine.

To me, it isn't the number of hits. I could care less if I got 100,000 or 10,000. I will never look through more than 100. What matters to me is the quality of the hits. What you experienced there is exactly what I am talking about. You found something cool that you can't find on Google.

Even without paying Google money, half the damn world knows all the little tricks for raising their irrelevant search results over relevant ones. Mentioning coupons, to something that uses YouTube to show an example, to paying for advertising (which automatically raises your search result - including the non paid version) and your search result just went to the top regardless of its relevancy. It only has to be remotely related. There are about 7 things I can think of for raising a result above someone else's. These same tricks will not work on Bing. Bing still is yet to be discovered on what makes it tick. As long as we do not know what makes it tick, you will continue to get good results.

-S

Stealhead
07-10-09, 09:58 PM
Well I can agree with you on the quality of hits with Bing I just did not mention it.Though they at times give out more hits though it is true most folks dont go more than 4 or 5 pages.

If Bing will keep up what it seems to be doing I guess we will have to wait and see.

SUBMAN1

Use it while you can. It is only a matter of time before it becomes corrupted too. All search engines die this way - with irrelevant results. This forces people to new and shiny things. Whoever though Alta Vista would tank? They used to be the force! Google is turning into the next Yahoo. Bing will follow at some point and we will be having this conversation again in a couple years! :DL

Nooo! It was 500+ pictures WITHOUT bare titties on Bing with the 'jugs' keyword.

Only category that Bing won was the 'tits', as it had in picture search the 2nd pic on the page showing bare titties.
