One thing thats totally lame in sh4 is you cant dive under 450 feet. I can either direcly to 450 feet but if i give the order dive then the ship goes back to about 200 or 250 feet. Is there anyway to dive deeper then 450 feet? I mean in sh3 you didnt have a limitaton. I mean i may implode in some subs but i read somewhere a u.s sub went 650 feet to avoid depth charges. I want to have the option when i get into trouble as well

Just keep pressing D and cross your fingers.

When you get down to 450 feet go to your command room icon and press the "set dive planes to deep dive" button. It's an arrow pointing from upper left to lower right on the icon. This will allow you to continue downward.

You also need a forward motion of more then 2 knots or the boat has to fight all the pressure, btw setting the planes for deep diving is no stock option, its something used in mods.

And for god sake reset the planes to normal at least 100 feet before your depth setting cause you will drop through and lose the boat..

That said i was at 475 feet yesterday avoiding depth-charges and surrounded by 3 destroyers,i was 10 feet from the bottom and still they pinged me and found me....depth charges exploding at a distance for 20 minutes, strings of 4-6 depth bombs...i was at 1 knots, silent running and then suddenly BOOM! direct hit and my ass was handed over to Neptune..

But watch your depth closely if you use the deep dive setting cause in my case it could have damaged the boat hitting the ocean floor.

Hi,
U boats were reported to be transittng the Straits of Gibraltar at 1000 ft. The test depth of British boats was at least double the normal maximum diving depth and I expect the American boats were built to similar standards.

In Wiki it says the following about a VIIC/41:

Test depth: 230 m (750 ft)
Calculated crush depth: 250–295 m (820–970 ft)

Judging by that 1000 feet doesn't seem that far fetched.

You might find that, at depth, the guages could have been out of calibration giving the wrong readings. Naturally the crew would think they're really that deep.

I find it hard to believe that any U-boat ever intentionally dove to 1000ft
