Firstly it's great to join up here at Subsim....Now the problems..
1/ In SH4 when launching ANY saved games i get "Torpodo in the water" 4 or 5 times...followed by "Torpodo missed sir" :hmmm: Also i saved just as i was approaching a task force...when loaded they are not there anymore :nope:
2/ I picked up a tip from here on making full use of my widescreen moniter by editing the main config file.....does anyone know if i can do the same with SH3 :D

For item #1:
Save only when surfaced - at a complete stop - in 1x (real) time - with NO contacts... and even then you might get a bad save. Of course a bad save to me is one where I get "Torpedo in the water" 4 or 5 times...followed by "Torpedo missed sir" 4 or 5 times. LOL
No seriously... you are probably lucky it loaded at all. I have had full stop surface saves which would crash SH4 right before the game loaded.
If you had saved before you spotted the task force - then when you reloaded the game the TF would still be headed your way (found this out while sinking the Yamato four times in a row :D).
My understanding is if you save after making contact the game could do all kinds of things including spawning you right in the middle of the TF... or crashing. You can never save too often... or too many.
Sorry I cannot help ya with #2. Good luck and happy hunting.

#2, you could try, but theres a mod over there at the sh3 forums that messes with that.

I use a 24" widescreen monitor and the graphics already look great. Is there something I can do to the main config file to make them better?

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
For #1: Saving anywhere near any other ships is asking for trouble. Don't know why, but there it is.
#2: Sorry, I don't know anything about that either (still playing on a five-year-old 19" CRT).

This is the tip i found to work on SH4 when using a widescreen moniter...Hope it helps other people.
Go into SH4 folder in my documents....locate Data...Config...open Main config file...go to [Video] and change to the following
[VIDEO]
Resolution=1680,1050,60,22
DynamicShadows=No
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes
It's the top line only that you need to change....start up SH4 and you should have widescreen...if not go to options/graphics...and change it there :salute:

1) sounds like the game is returning you back to the state your sub was in at the time of the save. I get this all the time and is normal.
2) can not help on that one.

Make sure you have not started an attack and then save the game. If torpedoes are still running when you save, you will get these results.

Try this:
Add this to the exe. +szx 1680 +szy 1050 works for 22" widescreen.Change the values to meet your resolution!
I do this for all old games,basically makes it fullscreen but you will see oval shapes..i'm not sure it works with SH3 but i remember using it and eventually dropping sh3 for this reason..

Thanks for the suggestions unfortunately they didn't seem to improve the graphics. I already have the resolution in the graphic options panel set to my monitors resolution. I thought there might be something else that people where doing to improve the widescreen graphics.
