I'll be continuing the Germany campaign I posted some pics of in the Screenshot thread, figured it was better to make an AAR thread.
Some notable events so far:
1839 - Prussia overthrows the monarchy and becomes a democracy, the German states are plunged into the first unification war.
1847 - After 3 wars, the last of the German monarchies fall.
Germany is formed by popular unification as a democracy under Prussia.
The Austrian Empire collapses. The Balkans and Italian parts claim independence while the formerly tiny Hungarian Prussian-puppet state is granted much of the former empire's territory (But still remains Germany's ally). Germany annexes Austria and Bohemia.
France invades Germany for the first time.
1853 - The Crimean War, Germany invades the Russian Empire in Poland. No territorial changes, but Russian military power is severely weakened.
1862-1864 - European intervention in the Mexican succession crisis puts Germany and France at war. The war claims over a million lives, at the end of which Germany annexes most of Lorraine-Alsace.
1864-1869 - Major economic crisis in Germany following the war, national income is down to a sixth, Liberal revolutions are brought down by force. The Netherlands are annexed by Germany (1869). The Freisinnige Party's victory in the 1869 election restores the economy to what it was in 1862.

1870
WAR!
February, 1870 - France, perhaps looking to restoring it's former glory and territory, declares war as soon as the peace treaty expires.

Germany doctrine draws heavily on the lessons of the previous war; Artillery is issued to 25 fresh divisions. Doctrine now dictates that no attack will be conducted at less than 2:1 odds unless absolutely necessary, no attacks or movements will be conducted if they create gaps in the front, fortification lines (Though none are apparently present, perhaps they didn't have enough time or resources to put them up again) will never be attacked without artillery with odds of at least 3:1.
German strategy once again calls for the annihilation of enemy forces and a march on Paris, which will proceed carefully in case of sudden deployment of French reserves.
In order to avoid another economic crisis, German leadership decides not to mobilize the reserves unless the situation becomes desperate.
Épinal, which has been deliberately left out of the negotiations in the last war because it lengthens the line too much, is encircled and crushed in the first moves of the war. 8 French divisions surrender.

The German army (With the help of some Hungarian expeditionary forces) advances south as far as possible without creating any possible weak points in the line and in the north as far as Cambrai and Amiens.
In South America, a single division invades the formerly Dutch colony in Guyana from French Guyana, 2 divisions (Already present in the area to crush a revolt in the West Indies) under August Karl von Goeben are landed in French Guyana and quickly occupy it.
22 German divisions attack Paris. The French capital soon falls for the second time.

The peace treaty drawn up cedes even more lands to Germany, the Franco-German border now stretches from Charleville and Cambrai to Besançon. Additionally, all of French Guyana is annexed by Germany. The treaty is signed on August 15, 1870.

With France thoroughly defeated, Germany turns to improving it's already huge industrial capacity even more. The laissez faire and free trade policies of the Freisinnige Party means that while the state is nominally powerless, capitalists are free to build and expand both factories and railroads. While that means that things needed by the state, like armament, may not be produced as much as it wants, industrial expansion is greatly increased.
This is put into contrast with the absolutist Russian Empire to the east, it's lack of industrial advancement is easily seen by a comparison of the German and Russian railroad networks.

Revolutions in the (also formerly Dutch) East Indies call the attention of the government, and a military force is assembled to be sent there in order to crush the revolts.
