Playing 1943 German campain with flotilla 2 and was in shallow water near liverpool when I was spotted by a patrol vessel at night. I dove to evade and launched 2 torps both missed. Well the vessel was circling trying to get a bead on me and all of a sudden he exploded and split in half. How is this as the torps clearly missed? It's like they came back boomerang style.

What type of eels were they? By 1943 you should have some acoustic homing torpedoes.

Hum, don't have any eels, they would be too small for the tubes. Electric eels might be cool though. So if homers miss they will aquire a target? They seem awefully efficiant, almost like underwater sidewinders.

If you had the earliest type of homing torpedoes the ship should have been traveling atleast 7knts in order to be target (lower speed, less sound , no target) . THe homing torps travel 300-400meters before arming and then do a slight zigzaging until they found a target.

Maybe the ship hit a friendly mine?

Maybe you fired circling torps and not acoustics. The kind that after their initial run will go in circles.
