Hi all,
Right up front, i've never played SH4, or SH3, but i've been looking through quite a number of screen shots. There seems to be alot of surface ships modded for the game, does SH3 or 4 support you to control surface ships? If so, is this advanced, i.e: All controls work correctly and you can actually enjoy a mission attached to a surface vessel?
Appologies about the new question, just weighing up if I should purchase it.

Other than in some player-created mods, neither SH3 or SH4 allows you to directly control surface ships. They are both purely submarine simulators with a lot of surface ships around to act as targets or atmosphere.

Welcome aboard Captain and there is a mod for SH3 that does let you control ships but I am not sure what it is called. You will find a lot of help here all you gotta do is ask.

Hi, wanted to welcome you.
I never played SH3 myself. And have no answer to your question about controlling the surface action. But...I am a PC gamer. I usually burn through games really fast. This game though in particular, SH4, has captivated me and kept me interested in it for a long time, it has a special quality about it. It has replay ability like none other that I've ever played.
Being a part of this site and its community are a key to its longevity, for myself anyway.
You should get this game, it rules bro. :yep:

Welcome to subsim, mate.
There are several playable surface ships in the game but they are modded, they are fun to play and most have several working stations, like primary guns, AA's and such but if you are thinking of managing torpedoes like the way you do in Destroyer Commander, well then nope. But is it fun to play surface ships as well, the details of the game makes it worth it.

You have made 82 posts here but have not decided if you want to buy SH3 or 4? Interesting.Unless you have some other sub games on this site but still interesting. If you have been here long enough to post this much then I dont see why you are un sure if you want to buy the game or not.
The game is about submarines there are some mods for both to control other vessels but they are all basic mods so not the deatil of the subs.I think you can buy SH4 for $19.99 here is the US you wont be risking your money if that is what you are asking. I would honeslty not factor in the control of other naval vessels as a factor in buying the game its name rather dictates what it is all about.

Im going to purchase SH4 (19$ now..never buy any game at the STARTING PRICE) Just wondering if what I have will work. I know it probably wont but just asking.
PCI EXPRESS 7300 NVIDEA CARD-Overclocked to 700 mem-511 engine
2.5 GB RAM
Pent 4 CPU 2.8 GHZ
Im guessing Ill need more RAM? and a better Video card?
EDIT: I do know how to shut everything down to just allow the PC to cook what is in the oven.So im hoping the Pent 4 CPU 2.8 GHZ wont be a problem.

Barely but I think it will work, I run the game in my laptop with core duo 2GHz 2G ram and Nvidia 9600GS @ High level with only environmental off (it is a killer that option) and the frame rate is acceptable 25-30 in action and 15 fps during heavy action.
I use my desktop to run it mostly when at home with an AMD X2 4800, 4 G Ram and Nvidia 8800 GT SC maxed out @ 16x AF 16Qx AA and the frame rate is no less than 40 during heavy action and 60-90 mild action, the detail is awesome, if you can get a better card it will help since the game is more GPU than CPU based.

It won't hurt but if you get the game and buy all the stuff, that is going to be quite expensive, isn't?

There are several programs to shutdown uneccesary services, I tested a free program called game booster (http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html), it is good and easy to use, i tried it in my laptop and it helped since it has only 2G RAM but in my pc doesn't make any difference at all.
This shot is from the game running on my PC.
