I am playing SH 3 in German lanuguage with GWX 3.0, can someone explain me what the sentence below means?

"Neues FT absetzen, wenn Boot 15 Stunden vor Einlauhafen steht!"

Thank you!

While I cannot give you exactly what "FT" means, I believe the meaning of the sentence is that they want you to confirm your ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) for your destination port. This is to plan your meeting with the escorts taking you into the base (Einlaufhafen).

"FT" could mean Funk Telemeldung - radio message.

P.S.: Who is generating those wild Avatars.....:hmmm:

They seem to crop up every once in a while. They only last for a couple of posts, then change.

Must have been a pretty wild night, uh?:D

"Send new radio message (FunkTelegramm=FT) when U-Boat is 15 hours away from docking port!"

Thanks all (until now)!

"Send new radio message (FunkTelegramm=FT) when U-Boat is 15 hours away from docking port!"

I did the above. I thought FT must be Funk Telegramm, however when I have sent the FT, it gave me the same message as before.

Message:

"Neues FT absetzen, wenn Boot 15 Stunden vor Einlauhafen steht!"

Because it was the same message, I went (by my own) without escorts to the return base St. Nazaire.

I must say that I have sent (the first message) 8 hours away from docking port.

Is that the problem, the 8 hours? BTW, I did not see any escort?

Thanks again!

@Rafael: DonŽt take that message too seriously :) GWX generates this standard message if youŽre out of torpedoes. The text was modified by GWX, changing the vanilla thing into something more realistic.
Well... you can send your status wherever you are at every time... youŽll always receive this FT again and again and again.... :D

No clue with the missing escorts... iŽm always stationed in Lorient

You are from Germany so you must understand the FT sentence.

It was some confusing for me, my German is quite good (I am 52 years old  and probably the oldest player here I suppose?), however now everything is clear. I have to figure out, where the escorts are - when returning to base -, because as said before, I did not see a specific escort ship.

Many thanks for the help. :yep:

I don't think so. I've seen people here in their 70s.

I have to figure out, where the escorts are - when returning to base -, because as said before, I did not see a specific escort ship.

The escorts can be found near the bases. They repeatedly sail in and out of the base, never going too far from the coast.

Welcome aboard! :arrgh!:

Don't expect to find any untill you are quite near your base.....different when leaving base, then often a M35 is on its way out - which you can trail. Only times I have found this worthwhile is out of Bergen at the end of the war. There are some nasty minefields in the exits to the North Sea.

Thanks All! You are all very friendly :)

I am playing the game for about two months and I am addicted, it is almost an obsession! I am happy to hear that there are people whith even older ages! GREAT.

A new problem

Yesterday night I saved my game and was NOT submerged. No ships nearby. Today I started the SH III with GWX 3.0 and I got an error from Windows.

"AppName: sh3.exe AppVer: 1.4.0.1 ModName: sh3.exe
ModVer: 1.4.0.1 Offset: 000ba5ea"

Now I cannot go further with my game, my question is:

1) Do you have (sometimes) the same problem?
2) Do you use several (multiple) saves during a game?

I always use one save e.g. AM14 and overwrite it.

What is the best way to save and do you have the same problems?

Thanks all. AND AHOY :yeah:

Did that happen when loading the savegame, or when Sh3 itself started up

In fact everthing was fine until I load the savegame, then you see in the words "Not so long ago ..." (in German). After the sentence "Not so long ago ..." I got the Windows message, with the error:

"AppName: sh3.exe AppVer: 1.4.0.1 ModName: sh3.exe
ModVer: 1.4.0.1 Offset: 000ba5ea"

I think when I would load a campain everything would be fine. It is the last savegame?

I have also been pestered by this problem sometimes. I have tried all the advice given here but have found that the only real solution is to always finish the patrol before the game is shut down.....

Also, I go out of the game before I start a new one through the Commander. A couple of times (very rare) the game has shut itself down in the middle of the game but that has probably been because of an overload. Like going into Dunkirk during the evacuation.

I make multiple saves & I don't overwrite previous ones as I've had problems with ctd's when overwriting saved games. With multiple saves you have some chance(s) of salvaging a patrol if you experience a crash. There is no 100% effective solution to the SH III saved game crashing problem. You can follow all the tips posted here & still have a crash on reloading a game...:wah:

Thanks for answering!

I needed to load the save game in base, so I lost my saved game during my 2nd patrol. The in base game loaded correctly.

I went again on the same (2nd) patrol and saved 3 times. Example: DH48-1, DH48-2 and DH48-3. I overwrote the 3 games during patrol and everything went fine.

@Murr44, you are correct, the best way is to have multiple saves.

@Leandros, it is (in my opinion) impossible to finish a patrol in a couple of hours.

@meduza, I have sent exactly 15 hours before returning to base a FT (Funk Telegramm) with 0 torpedoes. Because BdU sent me the message: "Neues FT absetzen, wenn Boot 15 Stunden vor Einlauhafen steht!", ... but again NO escort ship when returning to base?

Furthermore, BdU sent me the same message: "Neues FT absetzen, wenn Boot 15 Stunden vor Einlauhafen steht!" when I was almost near the base? So two times the same message and no escort ship?

Any clues why I have no escort ship nearby the return base? Maybe because I am at St. Nazaire?

Still a great game! :sunny:

The message has no practical value, it's for the immersion only. My German is not that good, but as I understand it, it says that you send the message when 15 hours from base?

Here I have the map with the escort's course in and out of St. Nazaire, made when i was based there. It's the modded St. Nazaire, but it should give you a good idea wher to find the escort.

The escort is usualy a minesweeper. They will not wait for you, they have a preset course which they follow repeatedly.

Correct I have a different map of St. Nazaire, now I understand that the minesweeper is the escort ship ... but I still don't understand the meaning of it. It makes no sense at all? The minesweeper is following a different course? When I arrive the minsweeper is heading to course SO and I must go North. :-?

Well it doesn't matter that much, still it is a great game.

The thing is, the escort is totaly unaware of you. He follows his own route, and will eventually return in your direction. :DL Catch him then and follow him.
The whole idea of the escort is your safety. The entrance to base is mined and there are antisub nets. You can see their general placement on the map that can be pulled down from the top left corner on nav map.

Ohhh, now I understand it. You're great Meduza! :)

I bought SH3 two months ago (Amazon.com) and it has the patch 1.4 on DVD, I installed the game and after installing the game I installed GWX 3.0 without any problems.

Questions:

1. The way I play, does it also have the mines and antisub nets?

2. I play with unlimited fuel. If I should play with authentic fuel can I refuel as said in the GWX SH3 manual ... and sail to any blue dot (with a name) on the map for refueling and press F1?

Thanks again mate!

It's Esc key actually. :DL Yes, you can refuell and resupply in any friendly base, or milchcow that is available. The whole process is similar to docking at your home base (getting near the milchcow, pressing esc and selecting "dock to..."). Technicaly, it ends your current patrol, and you start another one, from the place you docked.

Thanks again mate!

Hello Wildhawke,

Yes I am 52. I did not know that older people would play this simulation too!

However at age 32 (in 1989) I had 4 by-passes (needed 5 but was impossible to do), and since 1993 I don't work anymore. My health is getting worse ... I can feel that. For now the doctors cannot do anything anymore ... so I live by the day. I am not a lucky young man because of my heart disease.

Next month (21 July) I am 30 years married and I have a very good wife who helps me with my handicap. I can walk for about 50 meters.

I enjoy life and have two children (1 boy 29 years and 1 girl 27 years old) and SH3 is great for me because it is relax to play.

I am 52, but have the health of someone at age 82. :yep:

You could not know my specific health.

Take care! ;)

You welcome. :DL

Thanks Meduza!

I started today my 3rd patrol and did exactly what you told me, I went out from base and followed the Mine-searcher M35 at approx. 300 meters distance.

Another queston (please :salute:):

If you are almost out of fuel and you cannot reach a milch-cow what will happen with me (Kaleun Rafael) and my crew ... middle on sea?

And what speed (limited fuel) is the best to went out of base and go to your grid? The red line in GWX fuel, is that the reserve ... can you still go to base?

At night not submerged I suppose and at day submerged because you don't have enough fuel? You must keep an eye on your fuel constantly?

;)

Jawohl, Herr Kaleun! :salute:

If you are almost out of fuel and you cannot reach a milch-cow what will happen with me (Kaleun Rafael) and my crew ... middle on sea?
If you run out of fuel, there's not much you can do. You can't call for help, and you won't get far on batteries.

Now, there are two approaches to the situation :DL:
1. the realistic one - you admit your error, call it a day and start another career
2. the other one :D - you press Esc key and select "return to base" (or whatever the option is called). You'll end your patrol, regardless of fuel, and can start another one, pretending that none of this ever happened.

And what speed (limited fuel) is the best to went out of base and go to your grid? The red line in GWX fuel, is that the reserve ... can you still go to base?
The most economic speed depends of a boat. Generally speaking, it's about 8-9kt. I usualy go at ahead 1/3 which gives you a bit more speed, but reduces your range. Only when I'm very low on fuel, I go to economic 8-9kt.

You can ask your Navigation Officer to give you the estimated range at current speed. For better accuracy, ask while in standard mode (i.e. not recharging the batteries), and when your speed "settle" (i.e. not immediately after you change it).

Regarding the red line, I'm not sure whether it's a reserve, or indicator of empty reservoir. I'd say the letter. I must add that I rarely have the problem with the fuel, I usually spend my torps way before the fuel. Only once I almost run out, when I was patroling US coast aboard IXB.

HAHA!!! Great answer and very funny! :yeah:

You can ask your Navigation Officer to give you the estimated range at current speed. For better accuracy, ask while in standard mode (i.e. not recharging the batteries), and when your speed "settle" (i.e. not immediately after you change it).

Now I understand that my Navigation Officer never knew the estimated range, because I played it with unlimited fuel. Thanks Meduza! :DL

I bought myself now a VIIC and follow the M35 when entering into base or go out on patrol. If I ask my Navigation Officer the estimated range, he says at medium speed = 14 knots that I can reach almost 12.000 kilometers.

I am learning here ... pfff ... quite a difficult game.

It feels like I am back to school! :yep: ... and I am not the cleverest one on this school.
