So nhancer announced in the normal manner that updates are ready, so i clicked yes.

Turned out to be a whole new version, and this version after installation announced that my 2 year old nvidia card is too rubbish to be supported. So now it seems i don't have any nhancer.

My card may have been naff, but i found nhancer invaluable for getting it to run nicely:yep:

now what does one do? (new video card out of question as i'm moving continents in about 4 months and getting a whole new PC once back in euroland)

I believe 3D Guru carries the older verison that you can download.

This might work nicely for you:

I find the tweek program offered by Nvidia work just great. I never had much luck with Nhancer.

joe, just checking - are you sure it is your card that nHancer doesn't like? When you download the latest version of nHancer, it won't run unless you have the latest driver, which you can get from the nVidia site. That driver will run on all the cards in that series - Geforce 6xx for instance, and then nHancer is happy.
