View Full Version : Deck Gun Sight Drift, a bug?
I have noticed a phenomenon with the deck gun sight. When operating the deck gun manually, the gun sight will drift to one side or another. So after a while, instead of pointing the center of the sight at the target, you have to aim left or right, by watching my tracers. Sometimes it drifted so far that your target is on the edge of the screen. The drift will change slightly, but noticeably during an attack. This is especially noticeable when the sea is between 4-7 meters. (I don't use deck guns in rougher seas).
The drift is "remembered" from attack to attack, even if you have submerged between deck gun attacks. But will go away if you save and re-load a game.
I have noticed this effect since the stock game, through GWX2.1 and now 3.0.
Is this a bug or a design feature intended to make deck gun harder to operate?

check page 19 of the GWX3 manual under the "small oddities" section
"When using the deck gun with the rangefinder in zoom mode in stock Silent Hunter III the deck gun will occasionally fire a round several degrees in azimuth or elevation away from where the previous shell went even in calm seas with no wind. The only way to work around this is to get really close to the target so that these ―wild shots will still hit the target."

The drift is usually compounded if the gun is traversing when the deck pitches or rolls below water in moderate weather conditions.
