Opera Unite is a unique technology that turns any computer or device running Opera into a Web server. In other words, your computer (running Opera Unite) is truly part of the fabric of the Web, rather than just interacting with it, and it’s something anyone can use. With Opera Unite, everyday non-technical users can serve and share content and services directly from their own computers in the form of intuitive applications. That sounds kind of cool from a technology point of view, but what can you do with it, and why is it important?I don't know, this just sounds like another P2P program to me. But I do like the fact that you can develop applications for it.

Just started using it, and it seems like a pretty useful feature so far. Im currently running Opera on four different devices(home pc, laptop, work pc and mobile phone), and Opera Link and Unite make controlling all this a lot easier. Thanks to Link bookmarks, notes, etc are the same wherever I fire up the browser, while Unite makes it easier to access other content. This together with the fact that Opera has a built-in mail client saves one from a lot of hassle. Security-wise Unite is still a bit of a mystery, since using it means you will have to be more visible to the outside world, but we'll see.
