Type IIA -

Ran into a little weather coming out of the Skaggerak into the North Sea ("hoist the sails, the wind is blowing") then flat calm with a fresh breeze.

Submerging on the hour for hydrophone sweeps, shaking down all the systems. Running 3:15 time plots on my own boat for practice, so it becomes second nature.:know:

First contact - fishing vessel, unknown nationality. Ran speed/course plots and targeting solutions from varying positions so that will become rote as well.:know:

Plotted final exercise to get us within close visual range and surfaced near the trawler. Scared the daylights out of them...

Just now off Hartlepool, gonna drop down for a couple of hours and give this green crew (and Captain) some rest.

Okay, a couple of questions.

1. Is that an RDF antenna on my IIA, mounted to the conning tower? Does it work or is it for show?

2. "P" for periscope depth doesn't seem to work properly on this particular boat. The top forward lip of the conning tower is still above water and seems to make a hell of a wake. I can drop it down another meter or twos and eliminate the problem - not a big deal, just wondering...

The problem with the type two may be a bug.I havent played in such a boot for quite a while.Though this happens with the XXI where your periscope depth is almost more than you can extend the periscope.

Good Luck with the patrol.

Sounds like your off to a good start. It is a RDF and I seem to recall you can ask your radio operator to report any transmissions received. I may be wrong but some one else will correct me.

Goodhunting.

Thanks, folks. Found the section on the RDF in the manual. Rtfm right? Right.

"No player action is required to use the RDF antenna"
Sounds like the RO will pipe up if he finds anything on it. Odd, as I believe at least some xmissions would have shown up on it by now...

The antenna doesn't change anything in the game. It just looks cool raised while you're surfaced, and gets in the way of looking at things (this of course depends on whether you're more concerned about cool realism or being able to see).
