Type IIA -
Ran into a little weather coming out of the Skaggerak into the North Sea ("hoist the sails, the wind is blowing") then flat calm with a fresh breeze.
Submerging on the hour for hydrophone sweeps, shaking down all the systems. Running 3:15 time plots on my own boat for practice, so it becomes second nature.:know:
First contact - fishing vessel, unknown nationality. Ran speed/course plots and targeting solutions from varying positions so that will become rote as well.:know:
Plotted final exercise to get us within close visual range and surfaced near the trawler. Scared the daylights out of them...
Just now off Hartlepool, gonna drop down for a couple of hours and give this green crew (and Captain) some rest.
Okay, a couple of questions.
1. Is that an RDF antenna on my IIA, mounted to the conning tower? Does it work or is it for show?
2. "P" for periscope depth doesn't seem to work properly on this particular boat. The top forward lip of the conning tower is still above water and seems to make a hell of a wake. I can drop it down another meter or twos and eliminate the problem - not a big deal, just wondering...
