Yes, there are alot of fat kids, but I dont think its 80% of kids.:hmmm: maby 60-70%
A) school lunches suck, if you get a lunch thats even done and tastes good your lucky. (why I dont eat lunch anymore.)
B)Concentrate in class... they dont realy concentrate, they goof off and play games.

wow that is sad,
60% to 70% is horrible
future American kids treated like that?
How long will they live?
here in Europe its less than 8%
Back in my old Junior highschool there was probably 3-4 fat kids (including me) out of a few hundred. Course that was like 5-6 years ago.

wow man that's crazy stuff. My daughter doesn't eat all that fast food stuff. I make sure her lunches are healthy. She likes cold cuts, fruits and veggies with dip rather than KFC or McD's crap any day. No cola's is permitted and just juices or milk at home.
I don't deprive my daughter of candies and chocolates.. Just not insane amounts. Parents have to control and monitor what there children eat.
I never stop my daughter from eating either. She can eat as much as she can handle. She's average weight and healthy.
I feel bad for some of those kids. Ok those on the video are extreme cases.. But what about the averages? Why is this being permitted by the state?
Most of these kids will die in there mid 30s. Is this a new means for the State to impose a population control? :hmmm:

I believe it to be true. With cut backs on sports in many schools it does not surprize me. When I was in school we had an actual physical fitness standard inspired by JFK. Most kids I know would rather stay on the couch watching TV or playing games.
Screw sports anyways.
I won't make my future kids play or watch sports, they should exercise, yes, but they won't have to play sports.
I'd rather have a smart kid anyways, we live in a different world these days, The smart people will charge ahead and the dumb physically fit people will be ran over by robots made by the smart people.

Is it true??I ate like crap in school (hell, I still eat too much steak and drink too much beer). But I never had a problem with my studies.
I'm a parent and we feed my kids just like I was fed: three squares a day, some treats here and there, etc. Yet they are fit as a fiddle.
Why? Because we don't let them sit on their asses all day, watching television and playing video games.
It's great when you're a kid as you can have fun and stay fit. Now I gotta work out 5 times a week to keep in shape.
As an aside, isn't it ironic that as kids, exercise was play and as adults its "working out"?

The Norwegian philosopher and mountaineer Arne Naess was once asked how it came that he took up climbing. I never did, he answered. It's just that most grown up people stop climbing...
I think he stayed true to that, within his capabilities, until he died earlier this year 96 years old.
Children and grown ups can all play and stay both fit and happy. "All work and no play makes xxx a dull boy." :yep:

It would be interesting to find a study of IQ and obesity. I would assume healthier people are smarter because of better oygen levels to the brain than obese individuals. Also it seems that obese people have less motivation and would not be the most productive people in a society.

I... dont... know... about that... Ive seen alot of of healthy fit people who are up right dumb a**es. and some fat people who are quite smart, It realy in my opinion depends on the persons mental state, morals, and there Group they hang around. If a person hangs around a bunch of s**t heads ,and they could be the most fit person in the world and be a dumba**.

Simple obesity test. :yep:
1. Your hat band and waistband are the same size.
2. But, the only seat you can fit your fat arse into is a sofa.
3. Then face it. You have a weight problem that ain't gonna go away.
Another simple test. Find your height to weight proportion.
Subtract that weight from your weight and go out and buy the difference in pounds of lard.
Now time how long it takes to melt all that lard useing low energy output. Something like yourself. :yep:
Then multiply the time by 1000. The total time if your lucky.
Is how long it will take to get rid of your lardass. :haha:

USC report finds overweight, obese kids more likely
to live in rural America
The report, which uses data from the 2003 National Survey of Children's Health, found that 30.6 percent of children ages 10 - 17 are overweight and 14.8 percent of these are obese. Rural children (16.5 percent) were more likely to be obese than urban children (14.4 percent).

Will fatness become a genetic thing? I think so, you see fat kids with fat parents. My folks weren't fat and I didn't turn into a fatso (knock wood).

Although to be fair childhood obesity is a global thing, even in developing nations. It tends to be the poor that get obese, mainly because of bad nutrition, lack of exercise etc.

Very true,
Parents are responsable for their children,
Here in Ireland as in the Uk & in most of Europe,
Every school has a Parents' School Management Group,
So When A School decides on Food etc, etc,
The Parents' Group must Decide for all children,
If You are a Father Or Mother,
with children
In the USA School system,
STOP OBESE,
Have Your Say,
START A Parent Group With the Management of the School,
DO NOT LET OTHER CHILDRENS PARENTS KIDS,
GIVE YOUR CHILD A BURGER OR FAT SNACK FOR LUNCH,
OR THE SCHOOL ITSELF,

Sad but true story.
I am 6'2" and I am a big guy. In addition to being a big guy, I also happen to sport quite the gut. I tip the scales at about 250.
The Frau has this friend whose 11 year old daughter is only 15 pounds less than I am.
The 11 year old is about 5' nothing and is weighing in about 230+.
And her mother claims that she has done all she can and that it is no big deal anyway.
I grew my handsome gut long after I became an adult so I have no one to blame but myself. But what kind of parent would blow off an 11 year old girl getting to 230+. "It is no big deal". What is going to happen to that kid when she gets to high school and the rest of the kids get really mean to her?
I just find that irresponsible parenting (or a complete lack of parenting actually).
Maybe the Mother can stop buying her daughter TWO McDonalds meals for dinner? Maybe just one or better yet, how about no McDonalds except for special occasions?

to gain a grasp of the dietary trends in America one should watch the film "super size me"
one of the most disturbing parts of the film was the tour of the middle school cafeteria.
not only has PhysEd almost been completely eliminated from public school curriculum, but now they are saying crap like "ketchup counts as a required vegetable serving"
the most common lunch meal for kids "cheeseburger and french fries"
I remember when i was an elementary school kid in the early - mid 1980s
i looked forward to lunch - because it was healthy, we had a great mix of foods - green beans, mashed potatoes, vegetable soup, corn bread, beans, rice, okra, grilled chicken breast etc - - and it was like eating at home.
in an attempt to quench the public school systems thirst for funding i recall in high school our ISD signed a contract with coca cola worth a couple of million dollars to the school in "badly needed funds" - the contract stated that only coca-cola products would be made available at the school.
so your choices were water, milk... or nearly anything coca-cola made.
we had an entire hall which seemed to be dedicated only to vending machines, 10 or 15 of them... some kids would drink 6 or 7 sodas per day!
bringing quarters for the vending machine was almost a way of life
think of the sugar intake!
not only that but i remember when i was a little kid, Atari was getting to be old news... and Nintendo was "OK" but these video games were just good enough to inspire you to go outside after that got old.
we would play 20 - 30 minutes of baseball on nintendo and then resort to rounding up every kid on the neighborhood to play baseball in the vacant lot down the street.
sometimes - in my childhood we would dissapear for nearly an entire day, running around, playing army, riding bikes, playing football or baseball in some field somewhere and it would be near dark before mothers voices would echo through the neighborhood calling the various names of kids in the group. (no cell phones)
think of the calories burned!
by the end of the day i was worn out as a kid.
now the main source of entertainment is sitting on their asses playing online games for hours on end. - sometimes my 13 year old brother in law spends entire weekends of sitting around eating junk food playing CODWAW or something on XBOX Live - no showers no nothing... just friday from 4:00pm to Sunday around 10:00 pm - barely emerging from his room long enough to take a proper piss.
look at this week for example, he is on summer break, and has been visiting us.
today he came out of his room long enough to eat 6 or 7 slices of pizza... other than that he has been in there for the whole day playing around on the comptuer!
so im summation
1. shcool districts cutting PE
2. School districts cutting lunch budget resorting to high calorie high sugar diets
3. the enormous amounts of sugar and sodium in the drinks and snacks kids eat.
4. the lack of outdoor play in favor of indoor recreation like XBOX or PlayStation or PC games etc.
we have dawned onto the "garbage in = garbage out" generation

And I love the argument that kids should be able to choose the foods they eat at school.

Yep, we're from the same years in school GR. I remember the ketchup is a vegetable crap. I remember coca cola fountains being installed. Kids would fill their cups and take a few sip then hit the button again. If the lunch ladies caught you an additional .10 cent was charged for that sip. I hate coca and soda in general. Just nasty. I would prefer water or milk. Milk mostly. I did drink milk in school even though coca was available. The school lunches were not bad. They offered apples or apple sauce. Jello with fruit in it was big on their list. The main courses were as you said. I was tight with the lunch ladies. They would make me a cold cut sub everyday....even if it was not on the menu for the day. If you did not say their food sucked and so did their jobs (plenty of kids did that:down:) then you could pretty much get what you wanted from them for lunch. You get more bees with honey, not vinegar:03: So we toss in crappy food for today's kids because it is less expensive. Let's face it, eating healthy is expensive. Toss out any real type of physical activity in the playground or gym and soon you have a school full of Jabba the Gut.

to gain a grasp of the dietary trends in America one should watch the film "super size me"
one of the most disturbing parts of the film was the tour of the middle school cafeteria.
not only has PhysEd almost been completely eliminated from public school curriculum, but now they are saying crap like "ketchup counts as a required vegetable serving"
the most common lunch meal for kids "cheeseburger and french fries"
Reading this excellent post brought a mixed emotion from me:
1) Sadly, it is precisely what I witness when I look at two of my nephews http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/7118/nofemaleqj9xl4.gif
2) I thank my lucky stars my wife (who underwent a career break to bring up our two children) was around to see it didn't happen to our kids. http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9425/praydl5rp5.gif

I just got out of high school, and its not really that prevalent in illinois, maybe around chicago, but not in sterling, which is in northwestern illinois.
Our lunchladies did their best to hide the fact they were feeding us healthy stuff (for instance, wheat pizza crust:dead:) but they really were doing their best to make sure we ate healthy.
I got a sub almost every day, and she would never let me have just a salami sandwich, because salami is mostly fat. so i balanced it out with turkey, american cheese and jalapenos :D
