Did any other Brits catch this? Was an amazing spectacle, and made one damned proud to be British.

I once walked by no. 10 Downing Street, the pm's door was kinda blocked off from the public, couldn't knock on Tony Blair's (it was still his reign) door. There was a horse guard there and the horse was pretty calm, it let people pet it and stuff.

St James's Park was a nice place but I preferred Winston Churchill's war cabinet which is close by and open to the public.

Btw, that funny fur hat has a Germanic background, it was originally a bear's fur that a soldier put on in order to "get the bear's strenght" before going into battle etc.

I was invited to see the trooping of the colour several years ago ('06 I think).
All the more impressive when you are up close to it.
I remember it was very, very dusty.

Always worth reminding people that every man on parade is a serving soldier
and likely to be in the middleeast before long.

it was originally a bear's fur

They still are!

That is what those parades are for and why (Help! Godwin approaching!) the Nazis did it so often.

Yes, always a fantastic occasion to behold.

This year was the Queens official 83rd birthday and the 57th birthday parade of her reign.

The colour paraded this year was that of the 1st battalion Irish Guards.

@Letum.....your really quite lucky to have been invited, there are not a great many who have been so priviledged.
