Hi Mates
Probably been asked before but couldn't find a thread. While in port how do you dismiss or change an officer out of the boat to get a new officer. Epecially ones the specialities........
Question 2. I have a large gramaphone song selection. But when I go to the gramaphone icon in gameplay, up pops the nautical miles log.....can't seem to find the damn record player and my crew is growing angry...any help?
Thanks Guys

In this game you buy officers with points or reknown. You earn points in the missions that you use to purschase officers and equipment, weapons, ect. To dismiss a person, simply click and drag him to the left to the pool of men. If you dismiss an officer you will get a prompt asking you if you want to do so. Regular enlisted men you can just drag and let go. You will not be able to enlist an officer if you don't have enough points or you already have too many officers. As you play and promote your men they will gain special abilities.

With the gramophone, it sounds like you have loaded a mod. I know TMO replaces the gramophone for the chart. If you want the gramophone instead, look in the TMO support directory for optional mods.
You should find the stock gramophone there, just drag it into you mods folder and run it as you would any mod. I believe there is an updated TMO gramophone mod and I'll try and find the link.

well on the NM log there should be some buttons on it on the bottom right corner. those are the buttons to control the gramaphone.

There is a way to allow more officers if you so desire they still cost you but you can increase the amount allowed. You must not be on double secret probation for me to tell you how though. You can also increase the amount of CPOs as well that way you can promote that good Petty Officer. Again I cant tell any scallywags how to do it. It is this skippers feeling that it is far better to promote your own crew than to take "special skills" ones they truly are not with the renown if they did not orginate from your crew. The only special skills holder who is not a complete scallywag is the theroatcian for he gives a slight boost to the xp of every crew member so they learn more from combat(being at battle stations) very useful for the lower ranks but it only helps training and has no "cheat" effect on combat you could say he goes around after a battle and gets all Sun Szu and makes everyone sharper. He is the only one that is not more or less a cheat.

By the way all you do is open your subs save file near the very top should there should be a line that says officers and a number all you do is change this number and save and then you can have an extra officer or CPO if you need one. You could also make the enlisted crew larger but this is truly not needed though an extra officer can be useful.though if you where a stickler for realism you could make the total crew size to the real life level it would on be on "paper" though as obviously you cant place 70+ men in the crew slots the game happends to include.

I agree, most of the special officers are cheats and I toss them overboard. I will keep the ones that are part of the original crew except one. One of the specialist increases torp speed. It may say by 20%, something like that, but your torps look like rockets in the water.

For me (Vista) under my user documents there will be a folder SH4 in there should be a cfg folder and a photo folder(which is where all your recon photos go if you ever wondered) inside the cfg will be several folders. One is called SaveGames click that one insdie there will be tons of floders with 0000000 names each one of these are your careers look at the date created to figure out withch one is which and when you open one open the UPCInitial folder ActiveUserPlayerUnits in this file the 2nd line is the class of the sub 4th line in the name.the 16th and 17th lines are the ones you want to increase by a few add them and then save.Next back to the 000000 folder and click ActiveUserPlayerUnits and make the excat cahnges to crew size and save.

Also before you do any of this copy any file you change(before you change it) and paste it in a folder unrelated to the docs SH4 folder or your harddrives SH4 folders. You do this in port or at sea and wait until you port before adding or promoting in new guys. That is how I do it if you have something other than Vista some will have to post how it is done I know I am not the only person who knows how to do this.Dont go over the top with officers though too many in one place and the manning level wont go any higher you need a certain amount of every rank level. Adding one officer and CPO is all I ever do I most often groom a good sailor into a CPO where I feel his skill could be used.Seems for me CPO conn guys are kind of rare.
