Yep MMO. I'm not sure I like the idea, unless there are free servers. But if that's the way it is, then: "So be it, Jedi!"

It's being developed by BioWare, so it probably won't suck. KOTOR 1 was awesome.

KOTOR2 was awesome as well...until you got to the end
Hopefully TSLRP will be released soon enough to fix that...

Yeah, Kotor 2 wasn't bad. But it wasn't developed by Bioware, Obsidian received permission to use Bioware's engine. One of the infamous bugs in that game was "Swoop bike racing on the ceiling" , and surprisingly it got introduced after installing the patch :P .
Really looking forward to the MMO though. SWG was epic fail after they made some dumb updates.

The real problem with KOTOR 2 was the massive amount of cut content, including the infamous HK factory on Telos (You can actually find the door to it when you go down to the surface in the beginning, though it's unopenable) and a ton of ending material
I still consider SWG's NGE (A ridiculous acronym, coming to think of it) as one of the wores't updates ever made to a game in history

SWG NGE sucked bawls big time. I played a 2 week trial of that poor excuse for a SW game.
That trailer kicks ass, downloaded it myself from Game Trailers yesterday.

I never even made it to NGE, I played prior to JTL but once a game decides it is going to try to be two games at once, writing is on the wall and I left. Glad I did from all the accounts I have heard of that game since.
I am glad that this one is not SOE however, and the KOTOR theme in an MMO will be outstanding.
@d@rk51d3: I have heard nothing of course but I can virtually guarantee you there will be no "free" servers. I have never seen an MMO that has pay, and free ones with anything close to the same ruleset... why would anyone pay if that were the case?

I liked KOTOR but thought it got a bit too much credit. It was basically just a retread of every retarded "Zomg must find Sith Longjohns of DOOOM" story the EU loves to write over and over again.
BTW, every time I hear fatty nerds whine "KOTOR was what the prequels should have been" my ears bleed. Lets face it, if the "fans" controlled Star Wars each of the prequels would have 4 hours of mindless technobable, pretentious storytelling, leet comp haxxorz, and tons of EU referances nobody other than them would care about.

I disagree. Its because of the fans games and movies exist. With out us there is not future for these items.
Some companies choose to listen while other don't give a rats behind about there fan base.
Many ideas from fans can help the writers build on a cool story. Editors then can tweak the story better so there isn't soo much techno babble.
Also you have modders who make games better. Us fan "modders" want to improve on the basic core game. If your statement was valid what would SH3 be like now? Can you imaging playing with out the mega mods? :hmmm:

I think part of what makes the Star Wars universe so interesting is the extensive technical information and the EU, but then, I'm one of them "fans"

Sorry, but the Star Wars movies were all seen and paid for mostly by casual fans of the series IE: people who don't care about the EU. Where do you think these movies get their millions and millions of dollars of income and ticket sales from?
I'm still laughing at the fan nerds to this day who were angry Lucas didn't "insert EU referance here" as if anybody cares about some obscure class of Star Destroyer other than them.
These hardcore series "fans" have convinced themselves they're better at Star Wars then Lucas is and that's just hilarious. Considering 90% of EU writing essentially boils down to "dur jedi/sith wank".
The point of the EU was to expand the universe. But in practice it never does that. What it consistently tries to do is 1up George Lucas. Ohhh Lucas has jedi but look we've get teh BULLET DODGIN Jediz zomg!!! Hey, how else can we ignore continuity with the main series? Rip off the Matrix for bonus points!
Many ideas from fans can help the writers build on a cool story. Editors then can tweak the story better so there isn't soo much techno babble.
What i'm trying to say is that they do the exact opposite. Novels and book series written *never* expand on the universe. They just write "maor jedis".

Very true. Its about money. Always is.
I'm still laughing at the fan nerds to this day who were angry Lucas didn't "insert EU referance here" as if anybody cares about some obscure class of Star Destroyer other than them. It matters because the fan appreciates the fantasy made by the creator and team. So they would like to add. Some times Creator and team uses fan ideas... with or with out permission.
These hardcore series "fans" have convinced themselves they're better at Star Wars then Lucas is and that's just hilarious. Considering 90% of EU writing essentially boils down to "dur jedi/sith wank". Why not? Who made Lucas a god above mortals?

Ohhh Lucas has jedi but look we've get teh BULLET DODGIN Jediz zomg!!! Hey, how else can we ignore continuity with the main series? Rip off the Matrix for bonus points! So EU makes a alternate Starwars universe. It appeals to a fan base? If there happy why not. Lucas targets majority of the masses. Fan's target each other. Sometimes there ideas are amazing and other times well.. your right... they shouldn't be applying there ideas.
What i'm trying to say is that they do the exact opposite. Novels and book series written *never* expand on the universe. They just write "maor jedis". maybe its repeditive for some this eternal battle between jedi's and sith's. But this is starwars. It would be nice to have a story with tramp freighter captain flying in the universe smuggling while avoiding the politics. Or a bounty hunters life? who knows...?
You know Wolf, one of these days you should try and interprit something I say correctly. I understand your bordem with the repetitive never ending midi-clorian battle in the universe. My dark side is refusing me to understand your statement... My feelings are clouding my judgment... :rotfl:
Cheers dude and may the force be with you. :D

Some of the people who paid to see the prequels are huge Star Wars fans who prefer not to encourage the continual watering down of something they think is cool by indulging the hackish, ill-conceived nonsense that is the Star Wars EU...alas, if only the prequels hadn't ended up doing the same thing, if not to the same extent.
That said, KoTOR and KoTOR 2 were like fresh air. Both had more thought behind them than any Star Wars novel since the original Zahn trilogy.
The game looks cool; I do wish they wouldn't have done the same old, same old Jedi crap with the trailer, though.

This game will be amazing period... You can do that by just beating SWG which is VERY easy.
This and ST online are going to make 2010 a VERY good year for MMOs
CaptHawkeye

Surprisingly Wolf, we agree for the most part.
Why not? Who made Lucas a god above mortals?
Lucas is no God. But the persistent belief that he's necessarily some kind of "hack" and that Star Wars was made by the production crew is just untrue. Remember it was Lucas who left A New Hope to be completely written by his staff and the resulting movie was so terrible he had to completely re-write in a few weeks. This became the wonderous Star Wars we know. What annoys me is that the fans seem to think Lucas shouldn't own his own series. Even though he's proven that he *is* a talented writer.
I think Lucas's problem is that he doesn't seem to listen to his editors. The worst scenes in the prequels are usually the ones that simply serve no relevance to the plot. Thus what the prequels needed was the removal of scenes. Not the addition of pointless referances only EU fans would understand.
But this is starwars. It would be nice to have a story with tramp freighter captain flying in the universe smuggling while avoiding the politics. Or a bounty hunters life? who knows...?
My thoughts exactly. The problem nobody bothers with that. It's always "dur jedi this and that" or "mandolorian this and that".

Just had another look at the site, and according to the FAQ, most of the came can be completed offline. Only some elements require MMO to complete.
Voice acting is playing a large role too. Even your character is voiced.

I have been beta testing this for the last few weeks (just learned the NDA lets us say we are testing, just not what we are testing lol.)
I am pretty sure I can get away with saying that if you like BioWare games like Mass Effect, and you like Star Wars then you will love this game. I have never seen such a high percentage of the testers praising a title.
I know alot of people here are not into MMOs, but if this one has been tempting you then you will probably like what you get.

A little tip I can give for the Stress Test Weekends..
Being a stress test they intentionally do not put up enough servers, they want the population maxed for as much of the weekend as possible. Last time this led to actually queuing up to get on servers. If you logged out to go have some lunch, walk the dog or whatever, it could be a few hours before you get back in.
So if you are going to take a short break but intend to come back to it, do not exit the game! Just log out and you will be left at the Character Select screen but you are still in the server. That way you can just sit down and play again when you are ready.

Even though my CPU is below specs? Game play was very acceptable with very little lag.
SH5 does not run as well on this system!
Graphics are very nice and the story lines are interesting with alot of side objectives if you want them.
Now all I need to learn is how to do a screen shot if that is available in game.
I played as a Trooper (Of course!) and tended highly towards the Light side. 450 Light/50 Dark
I gambled on a mine field Game and lost.
An arm, a leg, and what not!

I enjoyed my 3.5 hours in game. Spent some time playing a smuggler and generally picking the sarcastic/smug responses and loving them. The storyline that you go through is fairly interesting too. Not as focused as WoW's gotten their questlines/stories now, but pretty good.
I also took a Sith warrior for a spin, always picking darkside where I could. There was one quest where I acted as an inquisitor in a jail, only to have my "master" tell me off for killing one of the prisoners because she would've been useful but picking the spare her and foist her off on imperial intel resulted in LS points.
Overall from what little time I spent in the beta, I enjoyed it. I'll be grabbing it when its released to play for a while, check out the content and give the different classes a shot.
And they don't skip on pop culture references either, I found a Superman reference with a particular quest on Ord Mantell. A reporter and her cameraman were getting shots and covering the conflict. The cameraman being naieve and wanting the perfect shot. Very Lois Lane/Jimmy Olsen.
Played a smuggler to level 20, this will be the class i play at Launch, Why?
Crotch kick, the *crunch* as it connects is awesome :D

Yea, I found him and he didn't want to hand over the Holo's.
So I shot him dead and took them.
:haha:
HEY! I was payed to get them and I did.
:D
Another area was the MineField Game.
I reported those running it and nothing was really done.
So on a Hostage Rescue mission for the Republic? I was paid better to see that the hostage had a little accident.
OOPS! Was that a bad shot into a tank of explosives?
:nope:
:03:
I also like the 'take that' ability.
Had some kid say my hair looked like a womprat or something?
So I followed him for about an hour stealing his kills.
He was a level 8 and I was a level 12 so it really made him mad!

I mainly like melee classes so I had been focusing on those classes so far in beta, but I had 3 RL friends get in this weekend and we made an Imperial set-group with one of each class and I ended up as a Bounty Hunter/Merc spec'd as a healer. That was a fun class. "Death From Above" is one of the best classes in the game. You fly about 15 ft up on your jetpack and do a nasty rocket AOE. Very effective :D
We tried doing one on the Republican side but the storylines were a bit too.... Disney.

However!
$80.00 for a version that would give me what I want as far as added extras. Then $13.00 a month to play it? (Cheapest rate)
:nope:
It's not that I don't want to pay this, it's that I can't justify this as yet.
Times are tight right now. I could wolf up a one time $80.00
But another $80.00 for 6 months play time that I might never actually do?
It's good.
But not THAT good.
Highbury
11-29-11, 05:26 PM
Yes it kinda sucks, but $80 seems to be the standard pre-order rate on BioWare games right now, ME3 is the same price but at least it has no subscrip fee, but again it doesn't have thousands of other for you to play with.
How we spend our money will always be subjective. $15 - $20 a month.. that is far less then one afternoon at the pub, and if you had a subscription you would probably have less nights out lol. But it is all about personal choice.

I am thinking of picking up this game to give my kids on Christmas. Of course, Dad will have to play it, too! :O:
I quit WOW after Cataclysm and while I have a character on LOTRO I don't play it much. I don't care for the Star Wars franchise at all, but I am always up for a good game. The Bounty Hunter or Imperial Agent sounds more like the type of person I would like to play. So far I'm hearing pretty good things about the game. :salute:

This game comes out soon right in about 8-9 days for the US.:hmmm: I read that us Oceanic gamers wont be able to buy this game till 18th of March 2012!:damn: If I order it from the US then I will only be able to play on US servers? If I have an option to choose Oceanic servers I would but Im guessing the reason we can't get the game till March is that's when the oceanic server will be available. Did I read it right or is this game available for us same time.
I suppose I could get it from the US and just stick to US server where ms will be around 150 to 250. Though oceanic will be 50-70 so its a big drop if I wait.
Any oceanic players know if this is true about the late release for us.

8-9 days until it hits shelfs, the servers are already up and running and they are loading people in as we speak. They will be loading people in at the order you preordered the game until launch day so as to not have any huge server traffic issues.

The 13th is the earliest possible that people would be getting in. It has just gone midnight in Austin (where the game in HQ'd) about 15 min ago so technically it could be any time, but I have not received an Early Access email yet.
The SWTOR forums are still down, I would bet they are up before they start letting people in game.

I can't afford to buy in yet but I'm heavily involved in extracting the 3D information for future modding.

Still waiting... I really hope I don't get in a day before the start. If that's the case I'll be really upset.

Yeah I would say like 50-60% of the population is playing Sith Inquistors.

Ya I know you can't go 5 feet with out running into another one. Luckly once you get off the starting planet it thins out and you start to see more of the others. Also don't see too many Sith Sin's. (Now playing a Sith Assassin)

Does there seem to be any additions or improvements from the last Beta testing versions?
I was quite pleased that my system ran it much better then I expected!
Once I dug into some of the files I could see major improvments to the compression schemes used in some files.
:yep:

I didn't play beta, but I have played up to level 25 thus far and I have to say the game is brilant, its like the perfect mixture of an mmo and a singleplayer rpg game. Again I didn't play the beta but the game runs very smooth on max settings. The servers I have played on have all been lag free... I'd say so far its worth the money, but again I haven't gotten to the end game so we shall see.
Alot of complaints about the 'cartoony' art approach, but I like it. More realistic would be more of a resource hog I feel the cartoon look lets you sort of be bland in areas with bright colors etc. Besdies I liked the Clone Wars series and that was a cartoon.

Was going to do it through Amazon but once I pay for shipping and the difference in US/NZ dollars it was going to cost $117. So then I tried getting the game from Starwars main site but clicking on the link to purchase a message comes up stating not available in your country. So I emailed them and they replied back with try amazon or any other of their providers like Origin but Origin did the same, locked me out from purchasing it. :-?
So Gamekeysbuy.com it is. :yeah:

I have to say this is the most fun I've ever had with an MMO. I've been playing at least a few hours a day ok maybe around 5-6 :D. I had to step back today and get some skyrim in.

Thanks to http://www.mmogarden.com/ I can play this game instead of waiting till March 27!
Keys are legit.
Been checking out the classes etc and I have no idea / can't make up my mind what to go. Thinking of the bounty hunter.
Edit: Batch 2 is only 4.26GB. I hope this is the last! :haha:

All up approx 15g DL. I can see why they are saying this game is going to be the wow killer im not all that much a big fanboy of the SW lore more a Startrek fan but hell this game is superb :yeah: Tried out smuggler, trooper and Jedi knight, took the trooper for a run in a warzone once I hit 11 they're pretty much a force to be reckoned with to early to say are they overpowered. :haha: Tho im liking the JK too, might stick with the JK for the time being.

I am having fun with it. Getting close to 50 on an Assassin (48) and I have a Sith Warrior that I play when my wife wants to play together, he is 28.
To me it is just like a fairly normal BioWare game, but with the ability to play with lots of people. Good stuff.

yeah Bioware has made big improvement to mmos, I usually dont read through quests unless its a major one, the way bioware has it like their sp games is spot on, I am lvling far slower than normal because I listen to every quest I come across. Was told to hurry up in a group the other day because I was doing just that so I left the group I would rather hear out each quest I get and solo play.

I got an email this morning saying aussie servers are now up for oceanic players tho character transfers are not ready till April, which doesn't matter for me as I lost the bet to transfer my highest lvl over, can only transfer 1 over.
Gave me a good excuse to start up a commando. My ping is 62! Compared to 200 on US West servers
