I remember when I first saw this woman. It was a pleasent supprise. Here was a non celibe elite person. Your 'everday Jane' as it were knocking them dead. It was a great story that now has gone sour.
Well since she 'hit it big' the industry got their hooks into her trying to mold and shape and change her to a more 'acceptable' clebrity appearance.
Now the poor woman is suffering.

To be honest, I think she's been over-hyped. Sure, she's a good singer, but people seem to think she's the best ever

Plus, I wonder how anyone can be suprised about this - there's clearly someone odd about this woman to begin with.

I agree 100% and therein lies the problem.
The industry (celebritys) in there desire to be larger than life cannot tolorate a run of the mill person and tries to shape them in their image.
Being ordinary or even better than average is just not enough.

Being great makes greatness. There's no point in celebrating the average. Susan Boyle has a good singing voice, but she carries herself in an average to below average manner.
The world simply can't celebrate EVERYONE, so we choose to celebrate the exceptional. Boyle was exceptional in that she provided the world with a suprise. Now that quality is gone.

Your missing the point. Simply put the industry wanted to make more out of the poor woman than she was.
If she was 'average' then tell her that and move on. But since she was such a supprise and a crowd favorite they did everything they could to make her something she wasent.

Just because she's average doesn't mean she has no right to say no. She chose to play the game and is at least equally responsible for the fallout from that choice.

Very true, its just that 'popular culture' at least at that level is pretty self destructive.
I dont think Ms. Boyle had a clue as to what she was getting into.

I dont think Ms. Boyle had a clue as to what she was getting into. You're probably right, though I still think that there's some kind of underlying issue that she has...
It is an unfortunate by neccessary side-effect of freedom that people can get themselves involved in things way over their heads.

I am reliably informed she has mild learning difficulties and has needed medical help in the past.
Hardly the ideal kind of temperament to deal with suddenly being placed in a goldfish bowl and having all the eyes of the world looking in at you.

Can you imagine the cries of descrimination were it found out that she was not allowed to participate due to earlier learning disabilities?

Agreed.

Certainly an odd woman. Personally I think these shows should be kicked off TV as they just exploit people for 15 minutes make Simon Cowell and Co another forutne and then leave the poor wretches by the roadside once they are used up.

She was just thrilled to perform as she did the first time, and she did resist people trying to change her. I do wish her well and that she enjoys life without too many dark clouds.

If you need to go fishing, I need a years all expenses paid trip around europe!:88)

I think that dance troupe that "beat" her sucked.
How can a game show like this come up with an objective fair way to compare talents so different from each other?

Perhaps she needs to join a forum like SS and chill out a little.
