I would just like to thank Rockinrobbins and Werner for their great tutorials. Werners vids, using TDC and PK finally had me understanding the difference between SH3 manual and SH4 manual targeting.

My inability to figure out how to use the PK, put me in a position were I tried the fast 90, which failed. Then RR's DOK method fell in my lap and I have never looked back. Smashing multiple ships in a convoy is once again a breeze. I have even become so comfortable with DoK, that I consistently put 100% hits on pairs of ships traveling in column.

DoK has netted me 68K on my current patrol.

- Huge euro liner and old liner travelling with 4 DD's (3 for the Huge euro, 2 for the old liner)
- Fuso BB in a massive TF. (4 fish, slam, bang on target. I think the 2nd fish might have hit a magazine, since many secondaries followed, sinking reported, then the last 2 fish struck home. Curious...) I would have liked to have spent tubes 5 and 6 on a heavy cruiser in the TF, but after about 20 secs after I fired my last torp I was driven under by a swarm of DD's.
- Tanker and small freighter (got 2 a piece from the aft tubes.)

(I still have 11 fish left. :arrgh!:)

It's members such as RR and werner that I admire, who makes things easier for people willing to try manual targeting. So now in my arsenal I have Wazoo's manual targeting and plotting, RR's DoK and JP Cromwell, werners excellent TDC/PK video's. To make these work, thanks to Hitman, his guide on how to intercept contacts.

Thanks to everyone who makes the Silent Hunter series what it is... the modders, the teachers, the explainers, and the question answerers. The strength and openness of this community is something I recognized and excited me even before I could get my hands on a copy and play the game. My sincere thanks to all who have contributed so much for so little thanks... this most grateful player owes you BIG time!

Thanks Akula for posting the recipe that makes Subsim a unique place. Without the players, modders, teachers, explainers and question answerers all functioning together, playing SH4 would be a very frustrating experience. That unique mix doesn't appear anywhere else.

Alone, none of these groups could have any fun with SH3 or SH4. It's only when you bring them altogether that a healthy gaming environment extends the lifespans of games published to be played for weeks or months into several years of increasing enjoyment.

Based on that, I'm not sure Ubi is too happy with Subsim. Happy SH4 players aren't looking for other games to buy.

That is the truth. I remember playing SH3 not being aware of these boards. It wasn't the same as it is now. I've never posted much, but I have read these boards regularly. The same now true for SH4.

Btw, my patrol has ended. I docked with a tally of 91K. I was impressed. I use RFB 92% realism. (External cam and stabalise scope.) The crux is, not a single dud fish. I fired 24. 23 hit and did their thing and 1 miss. (Long range attempt on a destroyer. Passed right past his screws.) My patrol was in Feb-March '43. Did they improve the quality of the fish by then?

I also took command of USS Baloa. Previous Command was USS Drum. Received medal of honour too. :up:

I bet on my next patrol though, I will be pestered with duds.

It never ceases to amaze me how the gaming industry always seems to miss the inherent value of a game specific community. Something like Subsim is chock full of eager buyers and top notch feedback... if Ubisoft has brains the beta testers for any future SH release will be from this fine group... who is already enamored with the last release.

:roll: Catch one of these versions on initial release and I think you'll come to the conclusion that Ubi uses everyone here as their "after the fact" beta testers.

Too true RR. At a quick glance just now, 940 currently active on the forum. Any forum I have seen with that much traffic is usually not worth the trouble of registering due to the attitudes and drama. This forum is truly amazing.

Yep, those video's made playing without contacts and cams so much easier. Changed my entire tactics. Anyone that takes time to learn them will never go back to the standard way of doing things. I prefer the O'Kane method myself, but have used them all.
