Still on my shakedown patrol.Date is 11th Aug,left on 1st,reached patrol grid on 4th Aug.After many sightings on the patrol, and much wandering around without being able to attack anything,i'm getting a bit bored,so i've decided to head back to Kiel.Just performed our 1st deep dive test with our IIA in the Skagerrak, which is where we are now, waiting, ready to go home.Weather is atrocious, visibility is about 200m,if that, and my men are soaked to the skin without as much as a "how are you?" from BDU.They have not contacted us regarding what we should do next,so I will either manually head back (if i'm up to it),or just abort where we are,and await the RAC to come and pick us up,we're drained
Is this normal behaviour?,and will our mid sea abort affect us in any way?
Thanks.
How come you started so late? (on the 4th, as it should be the 1st) And what Flottila were you in. I don't have a solution but I'm sure it is important. Because you left on the 4th you probably missed that radio broadcast to return home.
[Edit]Nevermind. Noticed your signature.

Just to re-iterate,
We left on the 1st Aug,reached patrol grid on the 4th.It is now the 11th,with no word from BDU.
The only messages we have had were days ago, warning boats from Konigsberg to return, something to that effect.

Pisces,
I reckon my sig could have caused a bit of confusion,I like to update the 'date' part as I go,just for fun's sake ;) , like a mini patrol report.

Maybe Admiral Donuts is mad at you. :haha:
Pisces,
I reckon my sig could have caused a bit of confusion,I like to update the 'date' part as I go,just for fun's sake ;) , like a mini patrol report. No, that wasn't it. I later noticed you had the Flottila mentioned in your signature. I completely overlooked it before. It wasn't the dates in there that confused me.
I think you were supposed to act upon that Konnigsberg message. I started my Carreer in the 7th so I had to. But what message you get in the 1st or 2nd flottilla I don't know. Is it specifally adressed to the 7th/Konnigsberg uboats?
I can't check the game files since my WinXP machine is dead. I'm forced to use a linux pc and feel very handicapped (being a total noob in it). Which is weird, as you are supposed to have alot more freedom in it. Either way, no SH3 for me.

The radio messages simply said "all Uboats from Konigsberg to return",now unless I am missing something here I am from Kiel.
Other orders for those in the 7th,were to "stay in the bay and attack the target ships,a small 2 ship convoy" (now which bay would that be,and what nationality are these 'target' ships?),mine are just for a 5 day shakedown, then await further orders, which, have not arrived yet.
The port in which the 7th flottila starts is current day Kaliningrad, (not sure what that piece of country is in the link below, seems to be Russia):

In the game it's on the eastern border of Poland with Russia, the bay is also east of Gdansk (to help you locate it on the map). To be honest, I have no idea what nationality those ships were. They were supposed to represent training target ships so it wouldn't matter. But probably neutral at the time. As I think I received negative renown. Oh well, there's a war around the corner for plenty more. :)
Why the 1st or 2nd do not receive a radiomessage with further orders I do not know. Maybe best to ask someone of the GWX crew.

In war there is never a thing called normal behaviour.

Venatore,
Thats the point, there IS no war yet,its still Aug 1939,and i'm stuck here in the Skagerrak like a fool wondering what to do next,I mean I can't attack anything, and don't even know if I should return yet.
Stuff it,i'm going back,another 2-3 days journey,and it will be Aug 14th! 2 weeks of nothing. :nope::zzz:
I DID get some co-ords though, see if they match up on patrol 2.
I don't know if this will help. But I believe the orders are to do a 5 day shakedown and then return to port. What I usally do is head out to the assigned grid, when I recieve the message for the 7th Flotilla, I turn around and head back to port. I figure it will get me back to port around the 6-9 depending on when I exactly turn around. With the 20 days in port that makes it late Aug (26 - 29), then I head out on my new patrol and usually get there a day or two before the war is delcared. I don't think there is a message for the 1st or 2nd Flotillas telling them to return to port, just the 7th to return and transfer.
hope this helps
Paul,
If you want to be at the 2nd patrolgrid before the war starts, set LESS than 20 days in SHCommander. How much depends on when you enter port ending the 1st patrol. And how far away the 2nd patrol grid is. (put your navigator hat on, and grab some charts) You don't have to be there ofcourse at the 1st of september. I think I read in this document: Donitz war log/ uboat movements (http://files.filefront.com/U+boat+movementspdf/;13499409;/fileinfo.html) that some uboats were not immediately deployable to begin the war. Choose if you want to be one of them. Take the time left after you enter port, and subtract the days you need to be at the 2nd patrolgrid. Give yourself a day extra if there is one. And whip those harbor boys into action getting your uboat back in shape! :gulp:
Oh yeah, and have a hard talk with Unkle D. about the missing message. ;)
