Whats the point in Starting a Career in 1939?
U start in august and every country is Neutral.....
And if i remember correctly sinking neutral Ships causes negative renown...
Shakedown cruise. Or as the GWX manual puts it; because uboats started to move to their positions before the outbreak of the war.

It's mainly for immersion and to checkout your boat and crew.
In GWX Gold you will get a radio message to change Bases from training port too.
And a Whole lot more. :woot:
You can use these first patrols as tune up.. or using the sh3 comander you can set the date.

Same thought crossed my mind too,yet I think its like a 'burn in' period, time to get used to things without having the threat of being at war,at least thats the way I am looking at it.I reckon it also gives you a chance to eye up some local ports in case you fancy a raid in the near future, again without the added threat of being spotted.
I've used the period to scan the local ports in the SE of England, along with Calais and Dunkirk.
I wondered also, but the shakedown helped align the crew with the skills I wanted. Getting into position helps also. Trackiing a nice fat English convoy with one Polish escort on waiting on the message that war is declared. Helps to know history. Lets one get a jump start on eye candy.
It allowed me to get into Scapa Flow on surface ahead flank. :D

it allowed me to prepare nasty surprise in Southend :arrgh!:
As stated the main reason is to allow you the ability to start the war in position to attack from day one of hostilities on 3 Sept. The game engine only allows career starts on the first of each month, so you cruise about taking in some of the sights then dock so that you can get out to your patrol grid before 3 Sept 39.

To trick you into attacking the target ships. Then every neutral warship, including the good old neutral Germans, will be attack you... :arrgh!:

It started when a lot of us complained about starting out on the first day of the war and trying to run at full speed through the Channel before September 3, when the enemy started blockading it. In real life 14 u-boats were sent to the North Atlantic on August 19. Since the game won't let you start a career on any day but the first of the month, it was either stay with September 1 or go for August 1.
So that's the point of starting in August.
Of course you can always start in September if you like. Or January 1940.

I got my answer, and tried to enter Scapa Flow ,The Blockades weren't to hard until found out a nice hidden underwater iron plate :damn:
Depending on you realism, those "iron plates" aren't that hard to get around. There is an opening and you just have to find it. If you have an outside view just judge where the shipping channel might be and just move along the plate until you ming the opening.
Also in Scapa, don't just look near the docks. There are occasionaly some big ones anchored near the SW exit. Getting out is easier than getting in.

Use the time to ethir perform shakedown for immersion, or go through Der Kanal without resistance.
